Then you are lucky my friend. Look at the DS RPG library. You'll find a ton.
I too prefer some genres with 16-bit graphics. Like platformers and the Streets of Rage like beat em up games (that's why I'm getting Scott Pilgrim for sure)

I don't play FFTA for its story. I just love the gameplay. I find it somehow relaxing. I find most Turn Based Strategy games relaxing actually.

yup. DS is still rocking SNES sprites fo sho. There's a million great RPGs on GBA as well. I was actually really pissed about Scott Pilgrim not landing on Wii-Ware.

Maybe if JRPGs went back to the 16 bit look they might not waste so much money on expensive voice acting and super-detailed rendered CG fmvs.
That's one of the reasons I enjoyed Disgaea I think. I just loved those sprites.

DQ9 looks amazing as well for the same reason.

I personally like the FF games of the PSone era style more. Prerendered backrounds are a cheap way to have pretty visuals. No need for full 3D cities.
Also the voice acting of FF X and 13 was indeed abysmal (MUST NOT KILL VANILLE) but 12's was so good it brought the characters to life.

the resident evil remake proved how unbelievably stunning prerendered background could look

I still can't get over someone think Resonance of Fate was good.
I think there are less JRPGS now because the market for them is dying, I mean take a look at the sales and reviews for the ones that are out already? Lets face it this generation is about shooters. If people play an RPG these days it's going to be a Fallout, or maybe a Dragon Age, if that. The industry is changing, and we get screwed as a result. Sure theres always going to be companies and gamers out there who make/want the games like these...but why bother when they don't sell as well as a Halo or a Call of Duty? Money talks friends.
