DSi XL worth it?
Re: DSi XL worth it?
I don't think that it's a good idea. It's one of the most pointless upgrades to the Nintendo DS yet.

When it was a separate application you'd buy that was bundled with a memory expansion card for the GBA slot, the DS Browser was somewhat novel. But time has passed, smart phones proliferated, now it seems really outdated and is an example of 'if you can't do it well, don't do it at all', in my opinion.
I'm still a split mind on if it was a mistake to trade in my DSi towards a DSi XL. The larger screen is great for stylus-heavy games like Picross 3D. But other titles like Dark Void Zero make me miss my smaller DSi- for its lighter weight and the smaller screen which flatteringly sharpened pixel art and seemed a little brighter.
This is a weird veiwpoint imo. When it was a seperate purchasable application it was novel, but now as a free, improved version of the application its not worth it? :S

You got it! In summer 2006, smartphones were less common place. Now, four years later, having 'the web in your pocket' is much less novel- and phones that cost less than the DSi and that the user is probably going to carry anyway will generally do a better job for web surfing than the DSi's browser.alienjesus wrote:This is a weird veiwpoint imo. Thats true, but its not like it costs me anything, so I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth :p. The difference is that Smart Phones are pretty pricy (I sure can't justify buying one :p), and from what I've seen, the internet costs a lot to use on them :S.k.vlaros wrote:You got it! I just got a "midnight blue" one. I quoted that because it isn't dark blue by any means, but it is nice looking. A lot nicer than that brown one for sure.
The larger size is more comfortable for me since I have big hands and the larger screens are certainly welcome for my old ass. I actually find myself wanting to replay some games now.

It's actually bronze which is the color I have. I don't mind it. I didn't have much of a color choice since it was from a trade that I did with someone else.Jayson wrote:I just got a "midnight blue" one. Re: DSi XL worth it?
I have a huge backlog of DS game and am still playing the old blue phat version. I was thinking about upgrading and with the XL dropping to $130 on the 20th... is this best upgrade for me?
I have no interest in new games at this point, I just want to enjoy my old games on the couch next to the wife and the bigger screen would be nice. So should I look into getting an XL or continue playing my phat until something new comes out and blows my mind.

I saw the DS lite was down to $90 - I'd like a brand new DS XL when they drop a little more since I have a 3DS anyway. I really do want to play those games on their native system and with the bigger screen rather than the 3DS way.

Re: DSi XL worth it?
I really don't have a reason to upgrade other than I feel way behind in the DS game (and there are like 2 dsi ware games I want). I heard the 3ds isn't the best for original DS games and there is probably a redesign around the corner... my phat DS works well, I was just thinking about upgrading. The lite seems too little for me so the next option will be to either:
a) continue with the phat
b) get a DSI XL
c) wait for the redesign of the 3ds to drop near the $100 price point.

I'm pretty tempted to get one myself with the price drop. I hear it's very comfortable and the bigger screen really makes a difference. Still a lot of DS stuff I need to get too. My Lite's touch screen messed up on me so that's not an option anymore (top screen still works though, so I can use it for GBA games).
