To get back on topic, yes yes they are. Ive told several stories about stores I was ridiculed at in the past for my purchases. The one most applicable to this discussion was when I bought the Neo Geo collection for the Wii at a Gamestop years ago and the kids playing Guitar Hero started hollering statements about how I was a casual gamer for buying a minigame collection.
I have no problem with others not thinking we exist, its fine, I honestly do not care. I realized long ago that the retrogamers are typically more laidback and easy going than the modern gamers (vast generalization I know), and I like that. So if others dont think we exist, I am fine with that. All I know is Monday I spent two hours playing Bubble Bobble with my little brother, we put the NES ontop of the 360.
And since it is just a low blow: the last con I went to (last weekend) the modern gaming panel was moderately attended and just came down to Nintendo bashing. While my retrogaming panel was the highest attended and the only one that got brought up in the closing comments.
Edit:
I take it back, there is one thing that gets me. When people say "why buy when you can emulate." Be it retrogamers or modern, the real deal is the way to play. I mean yes, I have many emulation devices, but there is no comparison to playing it on a real NES.

first of all how did you keep your cool around that!? that statement had one too many things wrong about it. kids will be kids, but i don't understand the mentality of people. since when does an old game mean it's a minigame! i know it's true that no matter what you say it won't matter, i mean it's just kids. but when people go around saying stuff like that, it just makes me wish that people are more open to things.

Honestly I doubt those kids even knew what a Neo Geo was.
I find it pretty hilarious that a couple of kids playing Guitar Hero of all games were calling you a casual though.

I kept my cool until the cashier, who was older than I was jumped on their bandwagon. I lit into them a bit, but not terribly. If that wasnt the only copy of the game in the area I would have just left, but I held my own and then let them go back to their "hardcore" game.
The cashier joined them in mocking you? Honestly cashiers grilling folks for their purchasing decisions should be grounds for firing. That's just plain unprofessional.
Seems like every gamestop is plagued with employees like that though. I remember once getting some nasty stares for telling employees that I wasn't interested in Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. Just one more reason I don't even go there nowadays unless there's a very good deal or something.

Guitar Hero is a "minigame", IMO. It has no substance. It's really just 6 buttons that you tap when it tells you to. It's the same thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER again! It may be fun, but it's just a short "minigame" that I may play in casual bursts.
Guitar Hero is more of a casual game than any Nintendo game will ever be!
