Possibility of a new console brand coming into the market

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Actually, Samsung is in a really good position to get into the console market if they were to choose to do so. They are a Korean electronics giant. Korean gaming studios are thriving right now. If they were to take advantage of this, they could break into the market. I could see them bringing out a console with the popularity of NEC's PC Engine. Of course instead of a following in Japan, it would be Korea and other Asian countries. The console would probably receive mild success in the western world.

The problem with that advice is that the "quit it" portion of the process becomes much more complicated after the "hit it" maneuver has been completed. Much easier to "quit it" before all else.

On-Live might do ok, but they are not exactly a new console. They are a service and their games are PC games, unless they find a way to get exclusives. The real problem with On-Live (even if they can get it to work and decrease the lage) is that they are trying to make money at the expense of the game developers they are relying on for their service. They are trying to make these games available to people through a streaming service, but the gaming industry would much rather have you pay for your own copy so that they see the revenue from your purchase instead of watching you pay for a service that only gives them some very minimal return. On-Live just isn't a sustainable idea because if they get too popular, then the game developers will either try to sue them, prevent On-Live from streaming their games, or they will go out of business.

As for a newcomer to the console market, I think Apple is the most likely, followed by any major consumer electronics companies.

Actually, I believe Samsung was kind of in the console market for awhile. I believe that they have some requirement that local manufacturers make electronics in South Korea, and I believe that the Sega Mega Drive was actually the Samsung Mega Drive over there.
