Re: Bad habit of not finishing RPGs
I wish I could say that it is a lack of focus that is keeping me from finishing Final Fantasy XIII, where I am literally knocking on the door of the final boss, but I'm pretty sure it has more to do with the game being a disappointment so far. Outside of issues with any game left unfinished there is just the fact that there are too many games to play. I think I have a impressive stack somewhere of games I intended to play, right next to an equally impressive stack of books left to collect dust. Maybe one of these days I will disconnect from society and "better" myself.

I have the bad habit of not finishing games in genral and books. I'm probably in the middle of about ten of each.
Where do people get this from? Games in general are a hell of a lot longer than they used to be, especially if one is to include side events and extra modes. Gaming is a big business now and companies are a lot more aware than they used to be that replayability sells games. Many 80's games stemmed from arcade titles, which were incredibly short (though incredibly hard). Even 16-bit era games weren't particularly long, aside from certain genres (adventure, RPG).emwearz wrote:RPG's are getting longer while every other genre is getting shorter and shorter.

I think he is meaning how easy games are today it takes less time to beat. Rush N Attack is a short level wise game, but it would take me a lot longer to beat then most non-rpg games out there. CoD games are what 5 hours long?crux wrote:I have the bad habit of not finishing games in genral and books. I'm probably in the middle of about ten of each.

I think you have to start at the late NES/early SNES era to make the comparison, as the early NES stuff was quite short due to the arcade origin. The big thing lately is the "short to beat, but lots more to do afterwards", including focusing on multiplayer as well as holyshit mindless collection sidequests that require you to restart the file if you miss one thing.crux wrote:I have the bad habit of not finishing games in genral and books. Re: Bad habit of not finishing RPGs
I have the issue of stopping midway.
Grandia 2
Skies of Arcadia
Mario RPG
FF3
Are recent games I've started and stopped. It's not they are bad games, I just don't push it to the end!
