Finally beat the SMS version this morning with about 4 seconds to spare.
Proof!
As you may be able to tell, I went right continuously. I managed to get a crash free run by applying the brake more than previously, even if I knew I could take a turn at full speed, I played it safe. In my opinion, stages 2 and 4 were the worst going this route. 1 and 5 were a breeze, and 3 was so-so.
Now to tackle the Sega Ages remake before moving on to some of the sequels...

Re: Together Retro: Out Run
Does anyone know if the GBA version is supposed to actually save scores, or if my battery is just dead?
Re: Together Retro: Out Run
I tackled the 3D Sega Ages remake as well today, which was better than I'd heard. It actually felt a lot like the SMS version in terms of control and visibility - I couldn't always see as far ahead as I needed to, and I found myself using a lot more easing off/braking then I would in the arcade version. It's fair to say that neither port is as good as the arcade original, but both have their strengths and do a lot to try and mimic certain elements of the arcade version. The arrange music in the PS2 version is nice, too. I'll be taking a break until later this month when I give Outrun 2019 a shot.

Re: Together Retro: Out Run
Has anyone gotten past the first checkpoint in the ps2 sega classics edition ?
I have tried countless times and it is starting to look like it's impossible.

Yes, I've played through it.arion wrote:Has anyone gotten past the first checkpoint in the ps2 sega classics edition ?

Are you shifting from low to high gear (L1/R1) after the first 5-10 seconds? If you run in low gear, you probably won't make it past the first checkpoint (I did this my first go at the SMS version). Shifting is manual, by default.

Which console version would you guys consider to be the best? I'm curious since I have never played any of them and I am looking into buying a version.
Re: Together Retro: Out Run
The Genesis version is usually regarded to be the closest to the arcade, I believe. Unfortunately, there isn't an arcade perfect port available.Mr.White555 wrote:Which console version would you guys consider to be the best? I thought the Saturn port was the best version of the original OutRun. It had arranged music and 60 fps mode.

It IS. perhaps the version on Yu Suzuki for the Dreamcast is better for hd displays when playing with the vga adapter, but the Saturn version is brilliant!
