Suggestions for New Genre 101 Series

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I just want to add that the racketboy guides are great

they are opinionated by experienced and enthusiasts , its summarizes a lot of the information, and its very informative.

Just don't make guides look too similar to each other. Its easy to distinguish hidden gems and holy grails, so try to keep it always as clear as that

As for new ideas specifically related to genre, I think JT's list is pretty solid. I'd only add a consideration of sub-genres, but you already thought of that.
Agree, hit some more systems as the Atari 5200 and C64. The 101s are a great series for new and seasoned gamers. Just like the recent Saturn Suggestion Thread perhaps get inputs from members for any new system or genre before finalizing. Wealth of knowledge here that can be added to any of the Series. Maybe also expand on an articles by providing links to a few Racketboy Threads that have a lot of pertaining info, to expand on a given article. The recent Survival Horror 101 Thread which is a great article, mentioned "Tank Controls" but no link to the four pages of "Tank Control" forum. Maybe copy paste into the article important info from the linked threads, that would otherwise been lost searching in all those replies.

This will make the 101s special, differentiating from Wiki as JT points out, with unique info contributed by all Racketboy members.

Just curious, what are the requirements for someone to write an article on any of these subjects?

I might be interested in doing a Beat'em up 101 article, using Ack's Survival Horror 101 as a guide. I always wanted to write an article on gaming

I got to agree with you guys. I think TI-99 and Commodore 64 articles would be great.

The only requirements are that you know your stuff and you enjoy writing about it. Ack and I could always proof-read it if need be as well. But just shoot me an email at racketboy AT gmail if you're interested :)

Unless you can find something interesting to say about the competition itself, I'm not sure you could make a post about the carts themselves all that interesting.

"It's a cart with 5 minute versions of 3 games so they're not fun to play unless maybe you're having your own tournament. There are only a few copies and people pay silly amounts of money to stare at them."

Curious to see what you guys think of the new platformer 101 article. Anything you liked or didn't like about it?

Some great information there and well written. I can see that you tried hard to make it a general overview rather than get too far into any specific game which must've been difficult (at least I'd have a hard time with it). Great post.
