Ah, good ol' piracy. Making unplayable games playable. It's unfortunate that I can't financially support the official releases but at least I can play the games.crux wrote:I haven't done it myself yet, but there are torrents for all the DLC out there. FTP them to the appropriate directory and enjoy. It requires a modded Xbox (soft or hard modded, I believe), of course. It worked on Live even before the servers went down, but now that they've forced our hand it's the only way to get the content outside of the few games that had DLC discs.
DLC downloads also exist for 360, though that's quite a bit more shady and needs to be done with caution since a Live account hangs in the balance there. It'll be a given in ten plus years though. It's a given for every system. Some people have even extracted unreleased games from the Virtual Console (the MVS version of IronClad, specifically) in order to put them on the original system. No information for systems as large as Sony's, Microsoft's, or Nintendo's will ever be "lost," unless we're talking about prototypes.

What? I just downloaded the Halo 2 map packs a week ago and played them for a few days.Inazuma wrote:First off, the XBOX 360 has a terrible failure rate so 10 years from now it may be hard to find some that still work properly. Also, Microsoft will likely stop support for XBOX 360's online features which means all of those download only games and DLC will no longer be available.crux wrote:You've brought this up numerous time and I'm still not sure how conclusion A leads to conclusion B. Some games rely on servers, some Xbox 360's break, therefor all Xbox 360 games will cease to exist. How does that work again?Inazuma wrote:However, maybe it's good that I don't buy a 360 considering most games on it you don't really own anyway. Between download only games and partial download games (disc based games with DLC), it's just a big pile of temporary shit. Either your system breaks or the games are taken off the server. Give it 10 years and XBOX 360 won't exist in any form. I will take the moral high road and choose not to participate, thank you.
If you don't believe me, take a look at the original XBOX today. You can no longer obtain any of it's DLC since it has all been taken down from the server.
Microsoft has removed support for Xbox since then?!
Damn, I take a few days off and now its gone!! I must not have been listening very closely to miss this.

Oh, it's actually April 15th. So you have 2 more days to download DLC and play Halo 2 online before it's all shut down.

Its complete bullshit that you cant even play it on a 360... even if you downloaded on a 360. Ridiculous!
