Sort of like if you had one of those rare Code Veronica Dreamcasts and the inner workings broke and you just swapped it with another generic Dramcast motherboard. It's not the same thing. Functionality wise it is, but it's been tainted somehow. Weird types, these collecting folk.
I guess I can understand that. All things considered I think my S&P cart with it's US back is actually quite fitting given the game is 100% in English minus the menus.
Its an either or for me, for Sin and Punishment.

A pain to plug cart into Pass thru/Game Shark cart. 2 carts to get to work on contact points. Definitely won't Dremel the cart. So its either swap the back temporarily or dremel out the notches inside the N64.

Since I only have a couple Imports the tower of carts plugged together so far is working, so I have been going that route. If the double cart become too much an issue on lockups, approach that bridge when I get there. At least there are options.

Well, my main reason for opting to modify the cart slot to accept JPN carts is exactly what emwearz said, you're future proof. I guess if it's gonna be your only import title, modifying the back of the cart (either by dremel or swapping with an American game) or using an adapter/GameShark is fine. But if you plan to eventually acquire more and more JPN carts, modifying the cart slot is your best option. When you get a new JPN cart, you don't have to swap the back, you're already good to go.
