When collecting, do you buy Terrible Games?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Also, Neo Geo AES carts? Which ones did you find at the warehouse?
i cant remember - i bought 8 carts - whatever they had there - like World Heroes Perfect and a few others - were about $15USD each...all new.

everyone buys terrible games
its a part of gaming in general
like if you haven't been ripped off on eBay you haven't been doing it long
or if you went to a strip club and didn't meet a stripper who was supposedly paying her way through college

Well, I just bought a bunch of brand new, sealed Xbox games from FYE as they are 75% off the marked down price. I got Crimson Skies for $3, Panzer Dragoon Orta for $2, Max Payne 2 for .25 cents (yes 25 cents), KOF 2002/2003 for $3 and Blowout for $1. Blowout was a disappointment. Not terrible, but definitely a sub par Metal Slug ripoff. But I could not pass up a $1 game, sealed.

Bad games are apart of the business, and I avoid bad games most of the time. But if I am interested in them, then sure I will pick them up. i.e., I have been buying a lot of PS2 lightgun games recently. There are some good ones and some real stinkers. I just bought Dino Stalker and Endgame. Both are pretty unimpressive, but I like lightgun games, and they are all so cheap at Gamestop (3-5 bucks tops). I honestly think you could pick up every PS2 Guncon game for like $30 or so.

So, yeah I buy 'em, but only if I have interest in them. I am not the kind of person who needs every game for a system.

I don't buy terrible games if I have the knowledge that they're terrible. Sometimes I just see a game I've never heard of that looks fun and I'll buy it. Or sometimes I'll get confused and think it's the same game as something similar that I want.

I do buy cheap 99 cent genesis games if they have a box in good condition because I can go to www.thecoverproject.net and print off a cover for a game I own that doesn't have a box. I do this for some of the more rare and expensive games that I'm looking for too. I'm not spending $60 for a complete copy of sparkster for genesis when i can get just the cartridge for $15 and print off the cover. I don't do this too often though, only when the game is really expensive or on games I already own without a box.

Generally speaking, I feel that a terrible game is a pock mark on my collection, so I don't want to own it.

Nevertheless, there are exceptions

1.) If a game is notoriously bad, like Superman 64, I wouldn't mind owning it just as a tribute to failure.

2.) Some games cross the "so bad it's good" line. With a few exceptions, these are almost always FMV games, but if I can get a good laugh out of a game because it is particularly tacky or trashy, then I'll buy it. I'm on the hunt for a copy of Ripper at the moment for this very reason. That game has Walken and it has cowbell. I need it, even if it sucks.

3.) If a game sucked, but had an original idea, I will sometimes buy it. Part of why I collect games is because i have an interest in their history of game design ideas. Sometimes a game has a unique control scheme, an original storyline concept, or an unusual setting. The game may have failed on a whole, but I appreciate the attempt to innovate, so I will buy it as a kind of curiosity. I think Lifeline (PS2) is a good example. It is completely controlled by voice recognition software. It doesn't quite succeed, but it was an interesting failed experiment nevertheless. I made this thread about failed experiments awhile ago if you want more ideas.

4.) I will buy a bad game to complete a series or collection. I don't like to collect every game for a system, because I feel that makes a collection lose its individual personality. I will sometimes try to collect every sequel of a series I like though, even if I don't like all the games in the series. Certain subgenres also interest me, and I'll try to fill in the collection with titles that fit that mold, even when the quality varies across games.

World Heroes Perfect is rare, dude.

If you wanna make an extra buck as a middleman, send me a list of AES stuff they have and a quote on how much I'd have to pay you to buy those games and ship them to the US.
