I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
thanks...done. I kinda doubt it makes a difference in my visible useage though.
Ocelot, did it again...sorry Boss !

can't remember what they were called but one guy mentioned some upload farms, rentable hard drives for your uploading. but I really don't want to pay to seed.

Seedbox stuff. I think people run those off of servers. But yeah you can get crazy good speeds with those from what I understand.

Basically a seedbox? Yes, you can basically rent them out and they have MUCH faster speeds than what your ISP is giving you (presumably). However, they do have size limits on the HDs and often it's not a ton of space (if you are heavily consume large torrentsnate wrote:can't remember what they were called but one guy mentioned some upload farms, rentable hard drives for your uploading. but I really don't want to pay to seed.
They're helpful mostly when you're on private trackers that require seeding to keep your account. If you really want to continue your torrenting lifestyle it may actually be worth the time to check into these more. Or look into Usenet, as someone suggested earlier in this thread. However that costs money too (unless your ISP has its own decent usenet newsgroups for subscribers)!

yep that's the word...but I just don't wanna go there.
I just gotta be more picky on what I bother to download. alot of what I have downloaded is kinda crap (movies that turned out to be lame, etc.) the lure of free stuff gets me in a 'kid in a candy store' mode and I load up 20 torrents at once

I know that feeling well! A few years back I had it REALLY BAD and downloaded such awful crap... However now I tend to do a quick Rotten Tomatoes/IMDB check to make sure I know what I'm getting into beyond a cool title and 3 screenshots. For other things like programs, well, I just hope. I've honestly been looking into getting Netflix to just rent out movies and turn them in right after ripping them, which would be like every day? Sure, it's not free but it's closer to it and they do have a surprising amount of obscure films.
But yeah, either make some rules for downloads and a chart to keep you from going over the limits or see if there is possibly any ISP that is less strict in your area.
Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
The only movie tracker I use is pretty much specifically for "bad" movies.
I had Netflix but I canceled it. I will get it again when they have more of their movies able to watch streaming.

You mean epicly bad? Well in that case I am all for it. I love b-horror and all other kinds of awkward pile of shit films.Octopod wrote:The only movie tracker I use is pretty much specifically for "bad" movies.

But I was referring to more.... normal, recent releases because that is what I expect most people to be looking for. xD

I figure that that is the kind of stuff that gets people in trouble so I stick with the shit the studios do not even care about people sharing. But I see, you mean like Transformers bad. The thing is shit like that gets good reviews doesn't it?
Re: I think Comcast just throttled my bandwidth.
well, there is 'bad' and then there is 'this sucks !'
