I didn't say ALL of 'em.Ack wrote:Seriously, you thought those beat em ups were mediocre? I'm kinda shocked, as they're all games I've really enjoyed, and most of the folks I know agree with me. TMNT arcade back in the day was awesome, and AVP 3-player ranks as my favorite arcade cabinet.SplashChick wrote:IMO you guys are listing lots of games that are mediocre rather than good, but even so the list of bad games is much more daunting.

Re: What to Do about Those Easy Games
There are a lot of good points in this thread.
I obviously prefer older games to their newer counterparts, though there is normally a significant amount of challenge in quite a few modern games, which can be done through having to learn the physics of the game, or just being plain hard like Demon's soul.
I just think video games are awesome.

This is one of the things I love about Racketboy. Someone will make a claim that some system or genre sucks, then a huge ass list of great games comes up that people probably haven't even tried. Rackateers know their shit and I can almost always learn something here.Ack wrote:Just to add to Fastbilly's list of licensed games that were awesome:

Kingdom Hearts isn't licensed, it contains licensed characters. Big difference. I'm pretty sure Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is the same in that regard.J T wrote:This is one of the things I love about Racketboy. Anybody remember the Gremlins game on the NES? I loved that game back in the day. Awesome times. I was thinking of this last night, and that game just popped back into my head.

Re: What to Do about Those Easy Games
How about just Star Wars games that I think are good then:
Pod Racer - Arcade, N64, Dreamcast, PC
Star Wars - Arcade, all home consoles at that time
Star Wars Arcade - Arcade, 32x
Jedi Arena - Atari 2600
Empire Strikes Back - Atari 2600
Star Wars - NES
Empire Strikes Back - Gameboy
Xwing & Bwing - PC
Tie Fighter & Missions - PC
Xwing vs Tie Fighter - PC
Xwing Alliance - PC
Rebel Assault 1&2 - Arcade, Sega CD, PC, others
Rogue Squadron Trilogy - N64, Cube
Dark Forces - PC, PSX
Jedi Knight - PC
Jedi Knight 3 - PC - Jedi Knight 2 was Quake 3 with forcepowers, not as good as 1&3
Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 - Xbox, PC
Demolition - PSX, DC
Battlefront - PS2, Xbox, PC
And my personal favorite that for some reason do not own:
Yoda Stories - it was created to be a side diversion for 10-20 minutes of a randomly generated Zelda like adventure puzzle action. It was based off an Indy title that I played some. The game may sound boring to you, and it did not age well, but I use to kill hours playing it since it was just fun.

If it contains licensed characters, it's licensed. Plenty of licensed games have original stories.SplashChick wrote: Kingdom Hearts isn't licensed, it contains licensed characters. Big difference. I'm pretty sure Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is the same in that regard.
If Kingdom Hearts isn't a licensed game, then M.C. Kids on the NES isn't licensed either.

Though I do have to say the same still applies. Soul Calibur IV, anyone?

Re: What to Do about Those Easy Games
I'm pretty sure the Kingdom Hearts games were done in cooperation with Disney, since the characters legally belong to them. Hence, licensed. I love the direction this thread has gone in. I get so mad whenever I read a review for some new licensed game like Batman:Arkham Asylum for example and you STILL have some dumbass reviewer on some site or another that starts the review with the usual, tired, cliche, "well as we all know, licensed games are always crap but this one is the exception".Limewater wrote:If it contains licensed characters, it's licensed. Ugh, makes me want to bang my head on a wall. Woohoo, yet another PROFESSIONAL video game review by some dumbass who doesn't know ANYTHING about video games

Good point about SoulCalibur. But the SoulCalibur case is a lot more different from both Kingdom Hearts and M.C. Kids than they are from each other. Both Kingdom Hearts and M.C. Kids are based on existing properties.SplashChick wrote:Since when?If Kingdom Hearts isn't a licensed game, then M.C. Kids on the NES isn't licensed either.

I'm willing to bet that most people would not consider SoulCalibur IV to be a licensed game, but to do so really would not be much of a stretch at all.
