What's your fighting style?
Re: What's your fighting style?
Each move usually has some zone where it is safe to use it without getting hit and it forces an opponent to block. I stick to these moves a lot when I'm on the aggressive.
I usually start out on the defensive and I wait to see how my opponent behaves on the aggressive. I look for patterned behavior, then I try to sucker them into using their patterns in a way that is exploitable.
Just as one example, you'd be surprised at how many Ryu/Kens you can walk towards and they instantly go into a shoryuken. The shoryuken can break through any attack, but it can be blocked. I just walk at them and block, they shoryuken, I get a free hit, and potentially a combo as they come down from the uppercut.

I tend to prefer an extremely aggressive play style in short busts, then hop back and do something to throw off the other player when they come in. I've also never been very good at coming up with long combos, so I tend to favor single hits to disrupt and punish my opponent and then lead into something devastating, such as breaking someone's super move with a light low kick, and then launching my own.
I have managed to play defensively in games before, but fights like that tend to become blow-for-blow ordeals, and they're not much fun: too stressful. I played a match in Soul Calibur 2 once where both of us just parried and countered back and forth until one of us made a mistake where we could sneak in a quick hit. I won, but it was a grueling match. Good VF matches can sometimes end up this way, but VF's good about giving opportunities to lead into other moves and punishing mistakes, so fights can change radically in a moment.

A lot of fast light attacks. Keep you opponent in a constant state of recovery.

Re: What's your fighting style?
Anyone ever try to control your opponents and use their anger against them?
My example, whenever I grab, my little sister has some kind of weird brain pattern that makes her think just because I grab her, she has to grab me too. I grab her, then when I know the grab is coming, get in some good hits.
Whenever I grab my friend and my brother, they also get mad, but don't grab me like my stupid sister does.
I don't know why they get mad at grappling, but I think it balances out since my brother trips way too much. He has pretty good mix-ups. And it's not like I grab constantly, but I grab pretty often to mix in with my combos.

I'm not much into fighters these days, but back when I was, this was kind how I approached them. Well the 2-d ones anyway, never was much into 3-d fighters other than Tekken 3 and Soul Calibur. I never had the kind of fast fingers needed for long combos like you'd see people do in Capcom's versus games with Wolverine, but I would always try and master small, yet highly damaging combos. I used to love Uppercutting someone into the air with Ryu and launching in a short air combo followed by a Shinku Hadouken.Ack wrote:I tend to prefer an extremely aggressive play style in short busts, then hop back and do something to throw off the other player when they come in. I always viewed projectile spamming as cheesy, but I had no problem dropping into that mode if necessary. Hey, I'll take a win however I can. To quote a fun exchange from Pirates of the Caribbean:

My little cousins like the "press every button a thousand times randomly " and the "use the same attack over and over again" fighting style.
