I was wondering if theres any preemptive measures one can take to prevent this from happening. I know good ventilation is big, but I was think more on the lines of somehow using something to reenforce the solder to prevent this from happening in the first place. Something easy to apply that maybe insulates the solder from heat. I'm not a major circuit board, processer dork or nothing, just a idea I had.

I say we stop fucking around and just go with the liquid immersion method to keep our 360's and PS3's from biting the big one.

Does the Japanese PS3 have the same solder problem? I'm guessing yes, since Japan seems to be a very health-conscious nation, but I don't know for sure.

I didn't know those were made. I remember some German guy on a forum got pissed that his machine was making alot of noise so he threw it into a tub of oil. Thought he had an original idea, there.

Just try and keep the systems as cool as possible. Make sure your fans and ventilation holes are dust free. It also couldn't hurt to clean the GPU/CPUs of thermal paste and lap the heatsinks then apply some better thermal paste such as Arctic Silver 5. This will increase the cooling potential of the system and lower your chances of system failure.

Thanks Niode, some very good info there. I didn't know there was a such thing as thermal paste for boards.

Yeah I saw that a few days ago, they really should do a article on how to prevent or fix it though. Still a good read I must say.
