What games are you looking forward to this holiday season

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

It's kind of surprising to me that only one of you mentioned looking forward to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. I at least want to give the game a chance, you know?

Not really games. I'm looking forward to accessories. More specifically, arcade sticks. All of the scrubs who jumped on the fighting game band wagon because the media hyped the shit out of SF4, Blazblue and KOF XII will be ditching their sticks because they aren't willing to put in the time it takes to develop skill to compete in said genre.

I'm already seeing hints of it - awesome arcade sticks going for half price on Craig's and in 2nd hand video game shops. :D We are about to see some phenomenal deals on mass quantities of normally expensive arcade sticks.
Tekken 6 could possibly set that back a little longer. I hope I can get a PS3 in time for Tekken 6. If I do I will drop it down from the 360 SE copy that comes with the stick to the standard version for PS3 and use adapters on my PS2 sticks. I hate how the 360 is such a closed system.

Ack: Is Shattered Memories the remake of the first one or is that Homecoming? I only played the original on PS1 and I want to explore the series a little bit. Im want to start with the remake and work my way through the rest.

Shattered Memories is the remake of the first. Homecoming is technically Silent Hill 5. I don't know if going through the remake is your best bet, however. Silent Hill 2 is where most people feel the pinnacle occurred. Having played Silent Hill 3(technically the first's direct sequel), I wonder if my impressions of the ending of Shattered Memories will be different from yours if you play the remake before getting into it.

I read up on the series and just now found out that they don't follow a specific character. I had no idea about that, so I assume that every game is good in its own right and its not necessary to play the previous ones to have a good time with it? If so im just gonna buy 2 and start with that since it has been recommended to me a few times now.

Nope, entirely not necessary, though if you play all of them it's a better experience, since many reference previous ones(and some earlier ones reference later titles). Like I said before, the only two I would play in order would be to play SH3 after the first.

I just read that Shattered Memories is a "reimagining" of the first game and follows a "similar" plot. I guess I will start with the original PS1 version. That means its time to dust off the old.......emulator.....(I dont have anything to play PS1 games on right now )

Time to grab that PS2, my friend.

Especially if you want to play Silent Hill games. That way, you can play SH1, 2, 3, 4, and 0rigins.

Well I have a PS2 but the DVD drive is completely dead, so I have to install games on the HDD using my PC and play them with hdloader. Luckily all of the games are compatible. :D

Dang, that really sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. Glad you've found a way around it though.
