Speaking of the "Nintendo Seal of Approval" that NES used to keep from their systems getting flooded with crappy games.....

Why don't they do that with the wii
Looking at a wall of wii games at a video game store is laughable.
I can't take the system seriously with all the shovelware out there.

I'm a huge nintendo fanboy but the wii is by far the worst nintendo console and one of the most overhyped and overated consoles i've ever scene.

People is so stupid that they like shovelware. The market is not going to crash again because of an overabundance of crappy games and systems, now the videogame market is not an elitist market with a refined taste like before, now it's like the music industry or films and shovelware is no longuer a problem.

Also the NES had tons of shovelware, at first they enforced it well but later on, pff.

I doubt it will make the market crash, but it will hurt nintendo.
They are the only ones that are going to get screwed over by the multiple petz, bratz, and stupid party games on their system.

Nope. They are making billions of dollars from it actually. Nintendo has figured out that most people are morons and they are taking advantage of it. Sony and Microsoft thought that advanced technology and high quality products were the way to go, but apparently they were wrong. Why pour hundreds of millions of dollars into developing an awesome game when a cheap piece of shit will sell better?

The people don't want excellent games with challenge, competition, depth, good controls, good graphics and net play. They want easy, dumb-downed, family friendly games with simple motion controls. Sony and Microsoft are working hard to get a piece of the Nintendo pie of shit.

And note that Nintedo itself is still making good quality titles, they are just profiting from the shovelware but trying to keep themselves clean.

*cough* wii music

Honestly all this shovelware WILL hurt nintendo in the long run. Here's the problem with this "blue ocean" strategy; they're alienating their original market while allowing their focus to shift to a market that has yet to be proven. Nintendo is producing enough quality titles, and there are enough 3rd party titles that are good to prevent the wii from being a total loss. While a lot of the complaints I see are that nintendo is not producing enough A list titles, I don't think that's as big of an issue as people think it is. Nintendo has always been pretty thrifty with their releases. The problem is the shovelware dominates the market, and it's sort of embarrassing to own a console like that. Peruse the wii aisle, and you feel like you're in the kids section. The fact that this garbage sells means that a lot of 3rd parties that would otherwise produce quality games, have no incentive to do so, so the focus is pointed straight at nintendo, just like in the N64 days.

So by allowing the shovelware to be the majority of wii releases, they're alienating their original consumer base; the ones who stood in line to preorder the system, the ones who buy nintendo developed games, the ones who created the hype for this system in the first place. Now look at the people they're focusing on; I wouldn't even call them casual players. These are the people who jump onto the latest fad then jump to the next one as soon as it hits. The wii is targeting the furby buyers, the tickle me elmo ebayers. I'm not convinced these people will support the wii after it hits its prime. Even if they do, nintendo will gradually lose its original market. The wii will become a toy, and the ps3 and 360 will become the game systems.

Right now the PS3 is only $50 more than the wii. The 360 starts $50 lower. I think this holiday season will show where things are headed.

Well the way I look at it Nintendo is completely f*cked next generation because the average Joe who buys the Wii is going to ask "Why should I pay another $200+ for the new one when I already have Jeopardy and Bejeweled on the Wii?" Thus none of those casual gamers that Nintendo loves so very much will buy the new thing, and the now alienated "hard core" gamers will not buy the console either because of their lost faith in the company.

That's my opinion anyway, I'm not sure wether I will be proven wrong or right, just my 2 cents.
