Needless to say there are some single player titles that are still quite good. Those withstanding, the only two PSX games I keep going back to are Destrega and Team Buddies. Most of the other titles I use to really enjoy have had better versions, or other games, released that have filled that section of my library.
For example my friends and I use to play Bloody Roar and Gran Turismo 2 quite a bit. If we get the itch to play them now we go for Bloody Roar Primal Fury and Gran Turismo 4.

the first or the second. because honestly i get sleepy when playing the first one. still a good game if i can ever get into it.... i like 2 the most out of the whole Wild Arms series honestly.
I'm sorry to hear that. The music was always what struck me as the most interesting with the first Wild Arms, and that pseudo-Wild West setting. It made it unique in a field that was getting flooded with titles(and that I now think is horrendously flooded with the same old thing).
Also, Silent Hill is still awesome. Not pretty, but awesome.
Re: The best PS1 games for today
I've been playing Klonoa lately more than my modern games.
Some other worthy PS1 entries I've played or replayed recently-- Silent Bomber, Parappa the Rapper, Mega Man 8, R-Type Delta, and Tomba.

Re: The best PS1 games for today
Crono Cross is not as good as ChronoTrigger, but still one of best RPG in my opinion.
Xenogears is a Mecha RPG, where the plot resembles anime series, so it depends on your tastes if you love it or not. It's supposed to be episode V of the Xenosaga series, but its a totally different game.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the platform that brought the Castlevania series into the present. Even after the recent titles, I still believe its the best Cestlevania.
Valkyrie Profile is just great. It's a little platform, a little rpg, a little story telling. The only drawback I believe, is tha fact that you need a guide or walkthrough to enjoy the game to the fullest (or just save and load a LOT of times).
And Metal Gear Solid of course. But I would personally prefer to play Twin Snakes on GC (or Wii) where the graphics are more tolerable.

actually its the Episode V in the xenogears story. they were planing on making other games for the series but due to the group leaving square and going to namco, they couldn't realize this possibility. so what they did was make perfectworks (only Japanese) a book describing every detail of the xenogears saga. no where in perfectworks is there any specific link to xenosaga. xenosaga was made by the same team and their is a possibility that it takes place before the xenogears saga...but since the creators worked with namco now, they wanted to avoid any technicalities with square and they went to call xenosaga a spiritual successor. i agree with you it's nothing like it though and its funny because two of the games you mentioned(xenogears and Castlevania SoTN), i have been playing recently. good picks.

I had no idea that was the case with the xenogears-xenosaga connection. Interesting...

Re: The best PS1 games for today
ok here is the problem everyone wants games that hold up today but compared to what??
just accept the games for what they are you arent going to have ps3 graphics and gameplay on a ps1 game also you gotta remember 3d games were relatively new then sso control schemes for the games were sometimes bad i cant even remember if any game on the ps1 used both dual analog sticks for player control.
ok here is what i like to play and you might agree "still hold up today"
alien trilogy (great fps) it is not the same as on atari jaguar but it is really fun!!!
dave mirra freestyle bmx (not the remix) imo it is the best dave mirra game
c the contra adventure and also contra legacy of war (clow can use 3d glasses!!)
now these games were hated by contra fans but i have just recently beat these 2 games and they were both worth the time and effort.
soulblade how could this not hold up?? great game great game playand highly underated in the series
ace combat 2 & 3 are great airplane games from namco
twisted metal series is great too alot of fun to be had with those games
mega man and mega man x games are really good good games for the ps
r type delta is a great shmup
g. darius while not as good as on the saturn is still great if you dont have it for the saturn (or ps2)
raystorm and ray crisis are also great shmups for the system costly for ps games but worth it
mass destruction is a great game too (also on the saturn)
marvel super heroes vs street fighter i mean does it not hold up??
resident evil series cant go wrong there
here is a sleeper rogue trip 2012 made by the same people who made twisted metal
and if you have a light gun get all the light gun games for the retro arcade shooter in you!!!
i tried to stay away from rpg's because everyone says they are the best games (which is a overstated opinion) and i feel that home consoles were meant to bring home the arcade to your living room and i never played final fantasy in the arcade
and thats my opinion !

Other than Alpha 3 (Which is still not good compared to the Saturn/DC version) there are no Capcom games worth playing on the PS1, all of them are bettered on the Saturn, thus for today (the same as when they were released) the PS1 versions are not really worth touching if your into fighting games.

i disagree, capcom has had a few games on the ps1 that where never released on other systems or stand up as the best on the system.
mega man legends series (these has both a psp port and pc but i still feel it's superior on the ps1)
One Piece mansion (has nothing to do with the anime one piece)
breath of fire 3 and 4 (can be argued for 3's psp version that i have not tried and 4's pc version also never tried).
in terms of strictly fighters, then i think i would have to agree with you, at least to a point. although just about every other capcom game realesed on the ps1 has, in fact, been ported to a system and bested its ps1 version.
