The loading times seems to be affected more by the setting of the cpu/ramclock (i.e. a 266/133 setting will be far slower when loading than 333/166), but both the PSP 1000 and the 2000 onwards have support for changing the clocks if you have a CFW.
Better loading times on the 2000 are only for people using UMDs not us CFW users who load from memory card and have always enjoyed fast loading times.

Does anyone know what model (ie. 1000, 2000, 3000 etc) the God Of War PSP is?

So I picked up a God Of War PSP. It has System Software Version 4.05. I've heard that only lower firmwares can be hacked but I was under the impression that all God Of War PSP's should be able to be modded. I assume the firmware was updated by the previous owner and it can be downgraded to a hackable version, is this correct? It seems like the most common way of hacking the 2000 version PSP's is to use a Pandora battery and a Magic Memory Stick. Is this the best way to accomplish the mod? If so does anyone know of a reputable place to get the Pandora battery and MMS from (preferably in the US so it doesn't take forever to arrive)? I would rather not mess with the battery in the unit.

The Pandora mod will work.
I buy all my modding gear from these guys - usually arrives from across the country within 2 days. I don't have any experience with places in the US with that kind of service, tho I would guess that it can be gotten cheaper and faster elsewhere. (I've bought official batteries locally for $15 and pandora'd the batteries myself for under $20 shipped in Canada, but US shipping would probably make it not worth while)

God of War PSPs are supposed to be hackable 2000s but you need to check up on that. If you can easily get a Pandora battery then its a good way, but I would suggest you take time to consider using ChickHen to mod your psp. Its what 3000 models use, but when you get ChickHen to run you can launch homebrew, so then you can launch something like hellcat's recovery or other apps to install a custom firmware on an earlier hackable 2000 model.

Of course I do stress that you need to read more into this as I can only point you in the right direction but no more. Even if you screw up you could unbrick with pandora as last resort if you fail. I've done lately all 2000 mods like this because I only have one memory stick and one battery and last time I did pandora almost lost it for not backing it up and had a hard time bringing it back to normal, but they are now cheaply sold and easily available online.

Is there an easy way to tell which 2000 series can be permanently flashed? I'm looking to get one and was hoping for some guidance.

I own two 1000's and one 2000, after playing the 1000 for a while I much rather play the 2000 as it weighs a whole lot less....still wouldn't give up my 1000's for another 2000 though.. :)

Probably old news, but I'm so happy that you can now run CFW on your 3000 by using Chickhen Homebrew Enabler and then installing whatever firmware you want.

I really love the PSP 3000 screen.
