KOFXII - Dedicated Post-Release Impression Thread
Re: KOFXII - Dedicated Post-Release Impression Thread
Well, since nobody else seems to have mentioned it...how is the music? Does it add to the menu woes, or is it something worth paying attention to? Do you even notice it while playing?
Re: KOFXII - Dedicated Post-Release Impression Thread
I've heard rumors that SNK just sampled "Take you for a ride" over and over again.Ack wrote:Well, since nobody else seems to have mentioned it...how is the music? Does it add to the menu woes, or is it something worth paying attention to? Do you even notice it while playing?

Yeah, SNK used "Take you for a ride", mainly because that tune has become synonymous with fighting games.
Actually, I never really noticed the music. Nothing god-awful, but nothing memorable either. It's too bad, really, considering there are definitely enough character-related tracks that every character could have their own when they enter battle.
Not really understanding the hate for the options and menu system. Only five backgrounds (four, if you consider the last one to just be the first stage at night) is a bummer, but it isn't anything I'll lose sleep over.

i just got it last night heres some things
good:
gameplay seems balanced
online lobbys being able to watch fights
backgrounds are nice and detailed, just not enough of them
its fun
bad:
sprites are well animated but they look like SHIT in 720p what the fuck i thought this was gonna be HD!!!!!!!!!!!
almost no story mode whatsoever, no boss, it doesnt feel like KOF to me without some super hard boss.
all the specials for my fav characters are different
why does Ryo look so fucking weird??? and why are terrys pants super baggy now?? im not really digging the new art style.
no mai, no bouncy
i dont think this game is worth the $60 i payed for it, it should be a budget title $30 or $40 seems right for it.

Re: KOFXII - Dedicated Post-Release Impression Thread
I had this game running at 1080p, and it looked f'en beautiful. My friends agree. Might not be as good as BlazBlue on pause, but I think the fact that it looks better in motion makes up for it.
And why is it bad that the specials are different? I know not all change is good, but this change isn't bad. Characters like Kyo, Iori, Terry and many others were too good. They were too versatile. They were like Ken on crack. They needed to be nerfed. (Also, I have come to love the new Iori.)
King of Fighters '98 and '02 didn't have a story either, and yet many consider them to be the best entries in the series. As for a final boss - only if you can't play as them online.
I will say this - I am disappointed with how there are no pre-fight intros and each character only has one victory pose. That does suck a bit. Still, the gameplay more than makes up for it.
By the way, the patch for the PS3 version seems to have helped out the online quite a bit. It's still not handling lag as good as BlazBlue, but it is certainly a lot better than it once was. I also just did the 'Beat Arcade in under 3:30 minutes' deal. Wow. That was the most frustration I have had since Score Attack Mode on BlazBlue.

Re: KOFXII - Dedicated Post-Release Impression Thread
maybe its just not meant for 720p because it looks very pixelated, almost as bad as playing neogeo battle coliseum on my bravia, but in motion its great.
its bad because i keep trying to pull them off and nothing happens!!!!!!!! hahahah i only put about 2 hours into this game so i gotta give it more time.
98' is just a given its shitload of characters its the "dream match"
so does anyone else think SNK will add some bitchin' DLC stages and characters anytime soon???

good to know the PS3 update made this better online. Going to give this a run later. I really want this game to be fun! Blazblue just didn't really do it for me, and SF4 needs a damn rest.
I like old games
I like new games

Re: KOFXII - Dedicated Post-Release Impression Thread
Ignition and SNK of America have hinted at it, but I'm not counting on it until SNK of Japan says something. There is that 'PlayStation Store/Marketplace' selection in the menu. I'd say that means that it is at least possible. I honestly think, though, that it won't be any more than DLC palettes.IcKy99 wrote: so does anyone else think SNK will add some bitchin' DLC stages and characters anytime soon???
If they had an add-on that, for say $20, added more characters (preferably females, because this game is a total sausage fest), more stages, alternate movesets (make Iori's pants red, his collar white and give him some classic moves, and bam - it's old school Iori) , custom soundtracks and maybe some other cool features, I'd be down like a clown, Charlie Brown.
