What's funny is that I'm on my fourth 360, and never once has RROD been the problem. The first one had a fan break, the second the disc drive stopped working and I got the dreaded E71 error on the third.
It's like a bunch of dishonorable discharges for my 360 consoles. At least RROD will let your 360 die with dignity.

Fourth console... Dude. Really, if a second console died out on me, I'd refuse to replace it out of principle. Even if it had incredible games, I wouldn't subject myself to the ridicule of flushing my money down the toilet.

I know a guy from another forum that has gone through like 8 units last I checked. He has a spare just so he can play while the other is out for repair. Thats devotion.

I bought a $50 three year warranty when I got the first one, so none of the replacement consoles cost me anything.

I bought an Elite the day it came out that had a disk drive fail after 6 months. The replacement for that runs pretty loud and lately I've had a few RROD's but the system always turns on again and plays fine. I'm not sure if I will send it in because odds are when they turn it on it will be fine.
I have a Jasper arcade unit in my upstairs office and it runs so cool and quiet. I think the smaller cpu's really are helping in most cases. I really love the 360, I hope they put a little more into the hardware next time around.

Do you think Best Buy will give me a new one since the purchase was so recent? I was kind of expecting this but hoping that I got lucky. What a pain in the ass.
I blame Fallout 3 for this.
Games cannot cause RROD's.

I am on my second original model 360 (pre-HDMI). My experience with the RROD return process was great. I got the box in 2 days (in Cleveland), and overall was out for 3 weeks. The unit i got back has been nothing but perfect! I got the newest revision heat-sinks on my chips and a much quieter DVD drive. I'm past the 3 year warranty, so yesterday I opened it up and added a small 50x50 mm fan on one of the sinks, added foil to extend the fan shroud and channel/direct airflow a little bit better. I will be getting new case fans (and painting/changing the case in time) to help a little more. It runs pretty quiet and fairly cool now.
Excessive, probably....necessary, unfortunately....reasoning, FALLOUT 3!!!!!
I just started to play this game, and I cannot stop. What was going to be a one hour sewer exploration turns into a 3.5 hour adventure. I cannot stop playing once I start, and I don't want it to conk out during a session, so I upgraded
Once this dies, I'll buy an arcade, and try the x-clamp replacement on it. If that doesn't work I'll Craigslist it.

No shit? Um... its called a joke. I played Fallout for 10 hours at a time so I was joking that it was the reason.
