Acrylic can turn out good, but if you're going the acrylic route then it should be because you're putting a fancy design on the console. Here's a good example of acrylic done right:

Someone should make a guide for painting systems, that way everyone would be happier.

Okay, to the OP, there are guides and tips all over the place on painting the system correctly. You used the wrong paint, you sprayed too closely if you used spray paint, and you didn't protect the swirl badge on the top of the system. It looks like a god awful mess, so before you even think of touching another system go read the guides.

Ive seen bad paint jobs but this one beats them all. what a waste of a dreamcast.

Actually, back to the topic of paint removal. I know that for plastic models, a lot of times, people will use oven cleaner to remove old paint.
