Star tropics is an awesome game. Also Magic of Scherezade for NES. Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime for DS...Very SNES zelda in feel.

There's always Lagoon on the SNES, though it's not easy.

And don't forget the Ys series.

Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast and Gamecube is very good. Like Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, it offers a vast world to explore, for reasons beyond the main game. It's more on the RPG side of the fence, though. If you want a good action RPG for the Gamecube, check out Tales of Symphonia. It's a tremendous game, plus it's multiplayer, so you and your wife could play the game together, if you wanted. multiplayer isn't mandatory to the game, though. It has the third-person action-based battles of Zelda [there's also no random encounters; you see all the enemies on the map], and similar puzzle-filled dungeons. It's a very long game, as well. I highly recommend it. One more game; this one I haven't played, so I can't give a very good opinion about it, but the game "Beyond Good and Evil" for the GC/XB/PS2 is supposed to be very good and similar to Zelda. There's an article about it on the main Racketboy site, under the "Hidden Gems" articles.
