yeh you might be right because you're the only person who I've seen other than myself mention it - I think it is very noticeable though - the first Ikaruga I played was DC and the GC just felt way too stuttery for me after it.bobbynewmarkiii wrote:Ok, I'm using this thread to conduct some extensive 'reasearch' into Ikaruga, and hope to post my findings in the fullness of time. My first relevant observation, which I have just confirmed in a direct comparison of all three games on the same TV, is that the GC version is a lot less smooth than the others - it feels jerky in comparison. the GC version was my first copy of the game, and I had no complaints - it was pretty much my favourite game for about 2 years solid BUT when I dl'ed the xbox version about 6 months ago, I then booted up the GC game, and it just felt wrong because of the slight and otherwise unnoticable stutter. Also, the colours don't seem as rich, although I acknowledge that this could just be due to my TV getting on better with xbox and DC than the GC. (I also note that I am playing the GC disk on my Wii...)
I had read on the internet (don't know where) that the PAL conversion of Ikaruga deliberately skips a frame per second or something that in order to get over the 50hz/60hz conversion wothout slowdown, so this may not be an issue for american or japanese gamers, but that does sound like a bit of old wives tale to me... Anyway, this has got me interested, so I'm sure I'll be back...

Naomi Universal w/ MB = $330Japhei wrote:The arcade Cabinet was about $1200 shipped 4 years ago.
Console to Arcade adapter was about $200 in parts . Throw in the Japanese Dreamcast and Ikaruga for another $150
About $1600 dollars total with shipping and taxes.
GD-ROM upgrade = free
Ikaruga = not yet paid for, but gonna be under $200.
It can happen folks, sometimes you get lucky. Now granted the cab is fixed freq and a standup but like McD's tells us - "I'm lovin' it".

well you must remember though that it is considered a 'flagship' game of the console which is to a lot of people on this forum at least, their favourite

Re: Ikaruga DC/GC/360
^^^ not too bothered about the DC hardware myself, I kind of sat out the saturn / DC eras whilst they were happening, so am not too bothered with the nostalgia factor - but this is the game that got me in to modern shooters, and through the Gamecube of all consoles... the sweet about Ikaruga, is that like a lot of the best shooting games, is that it just gets better the more you play it and the more it kicks your ass. Surely that's the sign of a great game...

Yeah I think it was made by Padus I think. But it's supported by lots of other much nicer programs than discjuggler.baphomet_irl wrote:isnt .cdi a Padus format? - most DC rips are .cdi in my experiencet0yrobo wrote:The 360 version has some differences in the game for no particular reason, so even though it's hd and has all the nice online stuff I'd rank it as the worst. As far as I can tell the gc and dc games are pretty much the same, I prefer using the dreamcast controller so IMO tht's the best version to play.
I've seen the dc version for around $90 if you keep an eye out you probably can get it a bt cheaper. Now if you do try to burn a copy (which I'd do before spending $100 on it), I'd strongly suggest to not even attempt to use discjuggler. It's outdated, takes a lot of fiddling and is totally unnecessary. Get either nero or alcohol 120% and burn it on a slow speed just lke you would any other disc image. It'll work just fine.
I don't remember exactly but it's nothing significant t anyone but the best players. Something like some bullet pattern being reversed.MrPopo wrote:What are the changes that were made to it? I've never played the DC or GC versions (watched a roommate play the GC version for 5 minutes) so I don't have a standard of comparison.t0yrobo wrote:The 360 version has some differences in the game for no particular reason, so even though it's hd and has all the nice online stuff I'd rank it as the worst.

yes you can use the analog stick and its flawless in my opinion... its like playing geometry wars evolved on xbla... it just feels right. also the rumble from the 360 really gives the game some awesome force feedback, which happens at all the right moments.baphomet_irl wrote:Ive only played it with my EX2 as the 360 d-pad sucks so much - I didnt know you could play it with analogue stick (which I preume you're talking about) - so it's works well does it?andythebadass wrote:I have all three versions and i like the 360 version the best. the 360 really stepped up the graphics and the controller is wonderful.
i dont know why people want to deny or not try the 360 copy.... in my opinion it offers it all... enhanced graphics (hdmi, component video and hdtv), great control (analog and rumble), being able to unlock REAL achievements from the game, and it only being $10! whats not to love?
