If you could nominate any retro game for a modern remake...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The Donkey Kong game for the Game Boy would be really cool with better graphics and more levels. It be cool if they did it for the DS and didn't use the touch screen or mic. They could keep the some levels the same, but have some levels use both screen (like the game and watch).

System Shock - here's why:

The control system is kind of broken - this was a really early FPS, and didn't quite get it right with mouse aiming but not moving your viewpoint - you really needed three hands to play it... I think it would be awesome on the DS.

Also, modern viuals and sound could make this game, which is already super atmospheric, even creepier. (although maybe not on the DS...)

Anyway - it'll never happen as the System Shock francise seems stuck in some legal limbo regarding the now defunct Looking Glass Studios, or something like that...

Well maybe we will get a true spiritual successor. As much as I liked Bioshock, System Shock 2 and even the first one had better atmosphere imho.
Older. Not wiser.

I think any modern remake of a 2d game should mimic the new HD Remix of Street Fighter.
It seems that when a game is totally redone from the ground up, i.e. 2d to 3d, it loses something.

So, here is a list of 2d games that I would like rereleased in HD Remix format:
Sonic - all of them
SNK Fighting Games
Marvel vs Capcom2
Mario 1-World
All of the 2d Zeldas
Streets of Rages
Shining Forces
Gungstar Heroes
The Contras
Final Fight
Rayman
Lunar (1 and 2 together)
Almost all of the great SHUMPS

Here is a list of 3d games that I would like to updated:
Shining Force
Tobal #1
Virtua Fighter 2

id like to see the phantasy star remake come out in the us.

also, any game from the snes era redone with nice large sprites like in odin sphere would be welcome. I would love to play ff6 with larger detailed sprites!

X-Men(Arcade beat 'em up), with Online capabilities.
Vectorman...just touch up the graphics some more, and have it totally jumping off the screen
Contra Hard Corps. Increase the resolution, and re-do the sprites, but keep everything to scale.

Kung Fu - Just have this with enhanced HD graphics, and spice up the gameplay, have like a combo system, make the enemys do more than just hug you to death. Just imagine "this" but with graphics like Kung Fu.

Doom - Same game but with enhanced 3D graphics, oh and let OCRemix remake the soundtrack, I was impressed with there Darkside of Phobos album, and I enjoyed there remake of the Street Fighter II's soundtrack.

Baseball Stars - Just mix with Baseball Stars 2's arcade style graphics (and enhanced it), and have the infamous team editor from the NES game. Also include online play, just imagine your team vs. there team

You Don't Know Jack - Although the game is not all graphics, but with games like Buzz and Scene It, this would be something I would like to see. Especially take advantage of online capability, like download new pack of questions.

Commander Keen - Brand New HD Graphics, Brand New Sounds, and music.

Capcom vs. SNK series - Just give it the same treatment as SSF2THDR, plus new characters and stage

Shenmue - Enhanced High Rez HD graphics, new moves, more mini-games, and an option to have Japanese language.

Thats all I can think of.

lately i've wanted to play hexen again.

I dug out the n64 version i had, but it was way too dated to play. I'd like a nice remake of that.

It'd be great to see all of those ludicrously gorgeous locales remade with current technology, plus the general gaming public REALLY needs to be given the oppurtunity to play that game. I'd also like to see the Sonic series' Death Egg Saga (Sonic 2-Knuckles) redone either in Guilty Gear X-caliber 2D or in the vein of Unleashed's daytime-levels.

(I mean honestly, how come Sega can't think of these things? How about a "Hey, the Sega Saturn was actually pretty fucking awesome, contrary to popular belief!" compilation, featuring ports of NiGHTS, the Panzer Dragoon series, Sega Rally, Fighters Megamix, Shining Force III, Dragon Force, Virtual ON, Guardian Heroes, Mr. Bones, Legend of Oasis, Dark Savior, Astal, the Clockwork Knight series, Burning Rangers, Three Dirty Dwarves, Die Hard Arcade, Daytona USA: CCE, Sonic R, Baku Baku, etc.? It could all fit on a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, it would be cheap to do, and it would get ridiculously good reviews, thus good sales as well. Sorry for the tangent, I just personally believe that I should run Sega.)

I've read on quite a few sites that Sega actually lost the code for Sega Dragoon Saga when one of the department heads quit. Here's a quote from wikipedia:
"Although the game is frequently requested to be re-released on a modern format by fans, there is apparently no interest from within Sega in re-issuing it for any console whatsoever. Team leader Yukio Futatsugi has also confirmed that the original source code for the game has been lost, adding further weight to the unlikelihood of a port. There is now a demand from fans for the source code to be recovered. Despite its scarcity, the game still enjoys a persistent following."
I don't understand why the original source code is necessary. I mean, you can just rip the data off the disks and it'll work, sound, and look exactly the same. Besides, Panzer Dragoon Saga deserves a full remake in the graphics and cutscenes. Make all the dialogue spoken, but change nothing about the gameplay mechanics whatsoever. And take some damn time with it. You have a classic at your disposal, and it's so rare that remaking it is practically releasing a new game. Get to it!! And have an actual ad campaign to go with it.
