What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

Smile: Had a pretty damn good day.

Frown: Sat down to play some Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Wii and the disc drive is making a sound like a weed whacker. The Internets tell me that it's the kind of thing I might need to send it in to Nintendo for.

Pretty sure the Wii I bought back in January 2007 is no longer covered by warranty. I joke to people about how I am amazed that it has not burst into flames given the amount of game play time it sees. I guess the joke was more of an anecdote.

It's doubly frustrating because the only other game I am in the mood to play right now, Skyrim, has become almost unplayable due to the memory overflow glitch the PS3 version suffers from. Oh well. First world problems, eh?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

A noisy disc drive sounds like a dodgy laser to me. Nintendo should fix that for free, especially as its a wii from around launch.

@swiftzx - it sounds like a very similar issue but I am reluctant to open my Wii up to confirm.

@alienjesus - that's the hope. I know that Nintendo takes care of the shipping label - all I will be on the hook for is the repair fee and as long as it isn't insane, I'll gladly pay it. I have gotten hundreds and hundreds of hours of entertainment from this little white box. The initial cost has more than amortized by now.

To hell with that dragon game. Play laggy KOF XIII online with me. Randomized combo timing is fun.

I'm not sure not sure about Dallas area libraries, but I hear you can make a killing at the Texas school book depository.

Yesterday I get the best job put in front of me.

I wake up today and hear that my medical bills were written off.

$9,000 just gone.

Someone pinch me or punch me in the face. I almost want to cry, lol. Is this real?...

Wow.

Frown: Tested my wii again - still making that grinding noise. Time to call Nintendo's customer service.

Smile: That wasn't so bad an experience. The girl working the phone was pretty pleasant to talk to and she even knocked $25 off the cost of the repair since I have been a customer at Nintendo for as long as they have had a game / hardware registration program. Whatever database she was looking at had enough of my Nintendo hardware listed that she felt it worth commenting on. "So many gameboy advances".

I'm not dumb enough to think that the "oh we're going to offer you $25 off for..." is anything but a sales pitch, but it was delivered well enough that I appreciated it all the same.

EDIT: Huge smile: On a whim, I just tried registering one of my Gamecubes. The warranty just got extended 90 days. Sweet.
