I haven't touched it, but mostly mentioned it since it was one of the big three from Operation Rainfall. I've always guessed it's probably better compared to Zelda and Castlevania stuff?Violent By Design wrote:Is Pandora's Tower really an RPG? It seems very different. I have it myself, but only got like 30 minutes into the game, so I'm still out of the dark about it.
What RPG are you playing right now?

10 hrs into Grandia II now. I'm getting killed hard by the boss that Aria turns into (or that protects Aria?) the one that's guarded by all the eyeballs. UGH.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Since I had the day off yesterday, I figured I'd start tackling Brain Lord. I'm a ways into the game now, at the start of the Ice Palace.
This game is an interesting mix of sword-swinging action, platforming, and puzzle-solving. So far it hasn't been too difficult, but I'm wondering if there will be a truly mind-bending puzzle at some point in the game that I'll struggle with. That said, there have been a few tough ones that took a few minutes to think through for me. The platforming sections have been much more challenging, particularly in the Ancient Ruins segment with its disappearing(or invisible) floors. So far the combat hasn't been too challenging, and while impressively large, the bosses haven't posed much of a fight to me.
Either way, I look forward to making my way through the rest of this game and knocking off another one of the shorter SNES RPGs off my list.
Hey Bone, how long is Brandish? And what are some of the other short RPGs on the NTSC-U SNES, like Lagoon and Ys III?

So far, I like it. There are a couple of little things that bug me, such as navigating the inventory system, and I wish I could jump and attack, but I'm enjoying the frantic gameplay, experimenting with the different magic and Jade types, and exploring its massive dungeons. I also like that the different types of weapons get used in different types of ways. I prefer the swords and boomerangs, but I've also encountered bows, flails, and axes.Jmustang1968 wrote:Nice i just received a cib copy of brainlord yesterday. As I said earlier, there are some tough puzzles. And I don't know if this will affect you, but the game isn't kind to folks who are colorblind. But overall, I'd recommend playing it. It's been fun.

Brandish isn't as short as other Falcom games. I think a first playthrough would take 15 hours or so.Ack wrote: Hey Bone, how long is Brandish? And what are some of the other short RPGs on the NTSC-U SNES, like Lagoon and Ys III?
Most of the short RPGs on the SNES are action-RPGs. The only one that comes to mind (that you haven't played - that I know of) is The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang.
Of course Ys IV, Ys V, and Xak are Japan-only.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Sweet, guess it is finally time I track down Spike McFang then!

Currently playing Breath of Fire 4 for PSX. I am about 7 hours in and all in all it is a pretty enjoyable RPG (although the camera is god awful).
The McCollum wood burned well.

Magic Knight Rayearth (Super Famicom). Gonna hit up the Saturn game when this one's done.
