I think Betterman is insanely ultimately mega bad, at least that's the rep I see that it has. But I kind of liked it back when I saw it on Anime Unleashed ages ago.

Supposedly it is somehow connected to GaoGaiGar in ways that make no sense.

Yeah I liked it too, I wanna see how it holds up to the nostalgia I have for it

136 days into 2016, I've watched 136 episodes of One Piece. I really liked the Alabasta arc; the fight with Crocodile was super-satisfying. I can't wait to learn more about Nico Robin and see who the next big bad guy will be!

I'm also just about done with Darker Than Black (only the OVAs are left) - I bought the blu-rays once I found out Funimation lost the license and was pretty glad I did! It reminds me of the "serious" action shows I watched on Adult Swim in high school, like Witch Hunter Robin, but is leagues ahead in quality. The second season is a lot more "anime" than the first, but it works as an interesting follow-up. Good stuff!

My next show will probably be AKB0048. Because it's apparently like Macross only not, and THAT'S ENOUGH FOR ME. I actually preordered the Japanese blu-ray of Macross Delta, since it has English subtitles. I hope it lives up to the rest of the franchise...

You won't get much of Robin's development in the next big arc, but just wait for the one after that... it gets real.

I'm almost caught up with One Piece thesedays, in the middle of the current anime arc... and I still think Arabasta is one of the best! Awesome fights, Crocodile rules, villains, cool location, Ace's involvement, etc, it was definitely the major turning point of the series and still stands out as one of the best.

After reading this article on Kotaku I started watching Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju. I'm only one episode in. The first episode is just the frame story, so I'm excited to watch the others which are supposed to be more interesting. I had never before heard of Rakugo, the Japanese art of storytelling, which apparently traces its roots back to Buddhist monks kneeling on cushions and telling popular Buddhist parables. It later became more of a storytelling and comedic performance and was the source for radio dramas in Japan. I recently developed an interest in 1940's radio dramas from the U.S., so this story about a traditional artform strugglying to stay relevant in the modern era appealed to me. I've also started watching real Rakugo performances on YouTube.

Whoa. Just got it, thanks for posting!

Just finished El-Hazard The Magnificent World, a very 90s OVA so if you're craving that, it'll scratch that itch. Nothing remarkable though.

Anyone here ever watch School Days? I thought it was an amazing subversion of the standard harem tropes.

I'm halfway through Wanna Be The Strongest In The World. It's a wrestling anime that focuses on ecchi camera angles of objectified women hurting each other.

You going to watch The Wanderers too? It's another weird Tenchi Muyo vs Universe kind of case with two alternate versions... same creators or at least anime studio too I think haha. You have to admit a teacher who gets super powers when he's sober is amazing.
