I still don't mind the extra characters in Sonic Adventure 1 a whole lot. I was far more bugged by 2's level progression. I want to just run through levels as Sonic dammit, stop interrupting me with this Knuckles FIND THE GEM crap.

At least once you've beaten it you can select any stage you want. I'd do a Sonic and Shadow run in one sitting to get that Mega Drive, having to beat the game in one sitting, vibe.

Fair enough .

But really you should, that final boss battle (once you've completed both good and evil storylines) is ALL kinds of epic 8)

I still think the Sonic and Shadow levels from SA2 have aged well...but the Tails and Knuckles gameplay...yeah, not so much. At least there's no stupid fishing in this one (Seriously, WTF were they thinking?)

I am logging in at work just so that I can support this sentiment 100000000000000000000000000%.

It wasn't the Knuckles/Rouge stages that frustrated me most, though -- it was the Tails/Robotnik eggwalker nonesense. At least in the original Sonic Adventure, if you really hated a certain style you had the choice to opt out. Having to suffer for 100% completion is understood; having to suffer just to finish a game is... well, Sonic Adventure 2.

Also the hit detection on that Biolizard... :x ...but I digress. I've ranted about this before.

I thought Super Mario RPG was corny. Paper Mario too. Never tried anything after that. I dunno..the console RPGs of my youth were Shining Force 1 and 2. The story and the game play in the Mario RPGs was just boring to me.

I've got to disagree, I found SA1 harder to complete than 2 simply because I had the option not to play the characters I didn't like which, of course, would keep me from unlocking Super Sonic. In SA2, the level mixing keeps the player from having to play multiple levels of a bad character in a row, and makes everything easier to swallow. And then once the game is beat you can always go back and play the individual levels you like from the map screen.

That's interesting! I hadn't thought of it that way. The two suit different play styles, then. I'd get frustrated enough to take a break during an SA2 stage I was forced into and didn't like, whereas you'd be motivated by the promise of a better stage in the near future. This almost sounds like the beginnings of a gaming personality test of some kind. :)

You don't really have to play them in a row though. You were perfectly able to give one a break and move on to something else for a while. Maybe that just makes it like Sonic Adventure 2 ultimately but at least I was able to set my own pace and tackle the levels I wanted to when I wanted to.

I don't really know what it is about Sonic Adventure 2. I've made multiple attempts at it. I've wanted to like it. It just never happened. Maybe I was more forgiving of the first game because it was the first Sonic of its type and at the time there hadn't been a new Sonic game in forever. By the time the sequel came around I may have been more sensitive to the warts.
