For those who don't know, today July 12, 2016 is the official release day for:

In the USA at least.

Two of the earlier games in this series have English fan translations:

I didn't realize 2020 also got a translation patch. I've only just started the original with a four princess party (because no reason to NOT look stylish while battling evil).

Cool. I've had the translated game on my DS for ages now, just haven't got around to it yet. I assume you're going with the original difficulty patch. I thought the "easy" patch was unnecessary.

I wasn't aware there was an easy patch.

The official translation zip file you can download from RHDN contains two patches:

7th Dragon USA V1.01.xdelta
7th Dragon v1.01.xdelta

Here's what's different about the USA version patch:

There's an optional version of the patch, "7th Dragon USA", with a lowered encounter rate and field damage. The goal was to maintain some of the core difficulty while still mitigating aggravation, but since the target audience of the game is masochists, the base patch remains unaltered. -From the patch readme file.

If you downloaded a prepatched ROM, you may be playing the easier USA patch version and not know it. Most people just grabbed the USA patch out of the zip file, and patched the ROM with that one, assuming USA patch simply meant "English".

3DS games do not show well in video form I think. Looks terrible, but I can see that the gameplay and other aspects look like fun and I'm sure it looks great running on the 3DS, just YouTube makes it look like garbage.

I agree that 3DS games always look like straight balls on YouTube no matter how good the actual game may look. Part of my problem, though, is that with my recent kick of Vita gaming, I'm spoiled by its superior graphics.

Yeah, I did actually think, man it'd be nice if this was for Vita. But developers have to make a choice to just go with one console or the other and it doesn't make much sense unfortunately to go with Vita over 3DS.

I play so many low-res games that it doesn't bother me too much. Vita is nice, though.
