Exhuminator's Disingenuous "Summer Themed" Summer Games Challenge

Aquaria (PC)
BioShock (360)
Dead Island (360)
Deep Blue (TG16)
Dive: The Medes Islands Secret (Wii)
Everblue 2 (PS2)
Finny the Fish and the Seven Waters (PS2)
Greendog: The Beached Surfer Dude! (GEN)
Sakura Beach (PC)
Startropics (NES)
Submarine Attack (SMS)
Treasures of the Deep (PS1)

It's June 1st, the first day of summer (as I recognize it) and I beat my first Summer Challenge game. A bittersweet victory, as now I've finished all four of Arika's SCUBA diving rpg adventures... there's none left. Here's hoping Aquanaut's Holiday on PS3 can scratch that same itch.

I'll probably do Sakura Beach, Greendog, and Submarine Attack next. Those should be short and sweet.

I also started my Summer Games Challenge this evening, although I've not beaten anything already.

I started with Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped and I've beaten 15 levels and 3 bosses so far. I think there are 25 in the main game, so I'm past the half way point already.

Having only really put time into the original Crash Bandicoot before now, I figured that they would have really refined the formula by 3. In all honesty, they really haven't improved anything much, it feels exactly the same, only you can use the analogue stick now.

The main gameplay change comes from all the gimmick levels in the game, which have made up at least 50% of the stages so far. None of them are as fun as the proper plagtforming stages.

The ones I've played so far include a swimming underwater stage with awful momentum controls, a Jetski stage that controls OK but is generally just really dull, the usual 'ride the animal into the screen' style stage (which is actually good unlike most of these), and worst of all, AWFUL motorbike stages where you must win a race in first to beagt the level. The controls are shit, the stage design is shit, and the time limits to come in first are really tight making them by far the hardest stages in the game - way, way harder than gthe platforming stages.

Crash 3 is OK so far, much like Crash 1, but it's certainly no match for the platformers gthe N64 had to offer. I'm leaning towards the 'Crash is overrated' camp personally.

Argghh, the DOOM boss in episode two is so frustrating! I know I just need to run around, shooting rockets directly at it's face but there's not a lot of room for mistakes. Even if a manage to land a bunch of rockets on him, one or two slip ups and then I'm dead :( I can't imagine what the harder difficulties are supposed to be like!

Not sure if I should try some more times or just skip to the third episode :|

Persevere lauren, you can beat the Cyberdemon!

If you aren't already, keep your distance and try to lead your shots. And don't be afraid to break away to catch your breath, it's a big arena.

The practice will help you in the long run too. The boss of Episode 3 is harder to dodge and you'll need to be able to move fast to deal with it.

So the rockets aren't actually that good against the Cyberdemon because he's immune to splash damage. A rocket normally does 20-160 damage (in multiples of 20) plus 128 damage on a direct hit from the splash damage (that 128 is reduced on non-direct hits). Since the Cyberdemon is immune to splash he only takes the 20-160 portion, which effectively halves the damage. The final boss has the same property.

You might consider using the plasma rifle instead, though that also takes a lot of ammo to down him. It takes on average 45 rockets to kill the Cyberdemon or about 200 shots of the plasma rifle.

Yay I beat him finally! Plasma rifle was the way to go. Much easier for me to land hits than the rocket launcher. Just didn't think to use it since the level only has ammo for the rocket launcher, so I thought that what was I was supposed to do haha.

One more episode left!

I figured that might work out better for you. Glad to hear you took him down!

Now you should be able to snag the BFG in time for the last boss which will make him much easier to take down (assuming you understand how the BFG works; it is not intuitive and almost no in-game feedback to guide you to the best way to use it).

Dead Island (360)
Deep Blue (TG16)
Depth Hunter (PC)
Depth Hunter 2 (PC)
Dive: The Medes Islands Secret (Wii)
Ecco The Dolphin (Genesis)
Everblue 2 (PS2)

StarTropics (NES)
Submarine Attack (SMS)
Treasures of the Deep (PS1)
Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II (NES)

Knocked another one off the list today, and added some more. Why? Because most of these are really short games. I think I can knock this whole list out by the end of August. Provided real life doesn't screw me over.
