I agree that the writing itself doesn't exude professionalism, but I don't think that it's an incredible abuse of the phrase "one of the first", though to be safe he probably could have qualified it more. I mean, you could go back to Akalabeth on this one, but Skies of Arcadia probably would've been one of the first 10 or so console franchises to be fully 3D. I'm not very familiar with PC RPGs, or western development in general though, so I could be way off base here.

Big props to everybody for knowing their stuff on King's Field, Granstream Saga, and Legend of Legaia (I had TOTALLY forgotten about this game), though! I'd add Brave Fencer Musashi as well if that qualifies as an RPG. Oh, and of course there's Panzer Dragoon Saga as well.

I think the idea was that the world and the characters in it were done in 3D. Even if you considered things like Akalabeth, Bard's Tale, and Wizardry to be 3D because of the maze setup and view they used, the monsters you encountered were not. Like with FPS, even if you consider the fakery of Doom to be 3D, the monsters and items were flat sprites as opposed to Quake being actually 3D. But I dunno, are we forgetting an RPG analog of something like Battlezone with 3D wireframes?

Ah, good point. The post had made me look up a thread or two considering the first fully 3D RPG. I saw it come up in enough comments that I took it for granted that it really was after checking a couple of screenshots. Had I actually watched it in emotion, as I am now, I wouldn't have made that mistake. I'd thought that it was a fully pologonal wireframe 3D game, so scratch Akalabeth from my comment.

Noise did you get this book? What are your impressions if you did? It covers two of my favorite games, so maybe it'd be worth grabbing a paperback copy?

So my Dreamcast gaming is about to get a whole lot better, I just bought a broadband adapter and all of the broadband supported games. I am really excited and I feel good about it because they are only getting harder and harder to find and are rising in value. Who else has a BBA on racketboy? I would love to play some PSO with wth my fellow !
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)

Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping! :)

Isn't that just PSO, Sega Swirl and the homebrew Doom?

I thought all the other games that were still online were dial-up only?

Yeah I'm excited and It seems like there's are quite a few games going on over at dreamcast-talk so it justifies me buying it especially because I do not pay for online gaming cause I just use my ps3:-)
