Re: Kickstarter Projects Worth Considering
Here's something I happened across, if any are interested. A game about undersea exploration and puzzle solving. Looks right up my alley, I hope it'll get funded in time.

Even though it just ended:
$9 gets you a pc with an OS and an RCA cable, the size of a pack of gum. It could be the next big thing in retrogaming, depending on how it handles devices and MAME. The chip in it is an Allwinner 800mhz, same as in many cheap android tablets. So it should be a capable little linux box.
More importantly, at $50, you get a portable case for it, with a dome qwerty keyboard and touch screen. If they allow for other cases designs in the future, this could become a pretty awesome portable emulation device.

For you Shocktrooper fans:
Tower 57 is like you took Shock Troopers or Chaos Engine and set it in a 1920s world like Rapture from Bioshock.

not Kickstarter, but Indiegogo instead. This sounds fascinating and looks awesome.

The C1 can have a VESA compliant monitor attached to it, creating a DIY all-in-one system with the ultimate goal of decluttering your desk. The big advantage over typical all-in-ones is that the C1 actually has space for full-size components, including big graphics cards.

Re: Kickstarter Projects Worth Considering
Pretty cool idea but I'm not digging the design. There are some major flaws and many many more products out there that tackle the demand for small/portable desktops. Sure there aren't a ton of computers that you can attach monitors to but there are reasons for that.
1. Monitor which itself generates some heat goes directly over the intake fans screwing up airflow. This is a pretty common sense thing so for it to be overlooked is kind of a big red flag.
2. The case design currently is really bare bones and doesn't show what it would look like with the motherboard/GPU, and disc drives installed.
3. It's going to be top heavy as hell so no way is that base going to work the way they have envisions it currently
.
4. The "company" consists of a 17 year old "engineer" and 18 year old "communications manager". Sure they may have made it to the nationals with their F1 in Schools project, but I think they are getting in a little over there heads with this project.
Really at this point they really need to take a solid look at their design and get a better understanding of their competition. If they were to manufacture some prototypes of their current design it would be a complete waste of the $2,000 they are shooting for.

Not to mention the fact that the components are made to vent heat a specific way. This way, you have heat traveling over the entire GPU and into the northbridge.Fragems wrote:This is a pretty common sense thing so for it to be overlooked is kind of a big red flag.
I like the concept though.

Its been done already, All In One PC. Although this concept does allow for expansion boards. I know AIO PCs can be upgraded with memory and hard drives and with USB 3.0 maybe the expansion card will not be needed if the PC already has maxed out the video card.noiseredux wrote:not Kickstarter, but Indiegogo instead. The Tower mounted direct on the back of a monitor is silly due to the cooling issues and ease of access to the boards inside.

that's the point. This thing allows for full size GPU's. The AIO's are more like laptops in how little you can upgrade them. This allows you to build a gaming PC w/ the specific parts you actually want, including which monitor, but have it appear more like an AIO.CRTGAMER wrote:Its been done already, All In One PC. You know what would be a better Idea designing a mounting system that you can attach to any case.
Less cost for production, larger customer base, and much simpler to design.
All you need to figure out is a simple way to attach it to a case that doesn't require excessive modding, and a way to place it so that airflow/heat isn't an issue.
Another issue they will be facing is their pitch "saves you space in an age where desk space is a premium". Where does the average person have their tower located? Under their desk so throwing that tower onto the back of your monitor isn't exactly going to save you any desk surface space in fact it's going to cost you space. About the only plus to having your tower on top of the desk is easier access to the expansion bays and ports on the back although you would now have to give you monitor a reach around to access the disc drives and usb ports on the front.
