I am currently driving a 2003 Mercedes Benz ML350. I have, unfortunately, put $3800 into the car this year; so, I am selling it. I intend to upgrade to a reasonably-priced, reliable, late-model, mid-sized sedan, but I do not know much about them. Do any of automobile afficianados have any recommendations? (DSH has already recommended the Honda Civic.)

What car do you drive?
Its my fault, I just thought it would be more appropriate to put my original post here rather than another thread, seeing as it is car related.
I tried to argue the American ares are no good and was told they actually are. Why do they get so a bad wrap then?
I had an American car - a Jeep Grand Cherokee - in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It was terrible. It always had annoying little problems, but as soon as the warranty expired, everything that could go wrong with it went wrong. As I understand it, the quality of American cars from the late 1970s until fairly recently was pretty abysmal, and I think that a lot of American manufacturers are still struggling with the reputational damage from that period.

It's "rap". And like anything, these things go in cycles. Ford in particular has done quite a lot to improve their product in the last 5 or so years. I'm not too fond of Chevy, but I'm familiar with the Ford Fusion and it's quite a nice vehicle and would make a great commuter.
