Just bought Donkey Kong Country Returns and I am two levels in...
...and I am already convinced that this game is worth buying a Wii just to play. Holy crap, what kind of dark sorcery does Retro possess that they can do such magic with Nintendo's franchises?
What are you playing?

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Shadow The Hedgehog, 3 impressions:
1.- The framerate is all over the place and it looks much worse than something like MK: Deception which actually runs at a constant 60FPS.
2.- Shadow is nearly impossible to move, it's like controlling a tower of fat ice skaters.
3.- The lack of a lock-on function is horrible
So tell me why I'm enjoying this?

So is that the last one or is there Gannon's temple or something after I get all the crystal things? (Forgot what those things are called)
Yeah, one more after you rescue the last maiden.

Tried to get into Devil May Cry on PS2, which I've been told the 1st one is the best one by many fans. But I just can't get into it. The story is sooooo cliche, and the gameplay is nothing more than mindless mashing of the attack button. I'm done with it after only 3 stages in.
So now I'm moving on to Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 also on PS2. I don't know why I've waited so long to play this one. I loved the first one, and I love the comic storyline the game storyline is based on in the 2nd game: Civil War. Looking forward to another fantastic run through the Marvel Universe.

As for the item, no its not necessary to finish the game. It has a very cool function, but its also a major magic drain, so the utility is pretty small.
Edit: I made a mistake in the last paragraph, so I removed it. Anyway, if you're interested in finding the item, its extremely helpful to use the magic cape, so its a good thing you found that. Beyond that, all I'll say is that if you go hunting for it, keep a supply of potions handy.
All the times I've 100%ed LttP on SNES I can't recall having ever bought a single potion from the witch lol
I tend to buy Cure alls and fill my bottles out of habit, but they never get used.

I suggested he carry potions to find that item though because its the Cane Of Byrna. I'm sure you remember what you have to do to get that, and potions make it fast and convenient.

DMC3 is the best of the series, but you are doing it wrong if you think DMC is just "mindless mashing of the attack button". And it really isn't very cliche, either - at least not by 2001 standards. I'd say stick it out, as the game isn't incredibly long and generally gets better and tougher as it goes.
MUA2 was really widely panned. I am surprised you find it worth playing. Are you sure it isn't just comic book fandom clouding your judgement?

I ran into the same issues - and for some reason I also loved the shit out of Shadow the Hedgehog. I think maybe it's because that the game, for all of its flaws, does such a great job giving you absolute freedom on how to play through each level that you find yourself willing to deal with the problems.
Damn but now I need to play through it again.

Average scores of 8.5 is bad? Especially for a comic book game?
