I think a lot of deductions got eliminated because I actually claimed more this year (I didn't bother tracking my medical expenses or out of pocket expenses for classroom supplies, and last year was the first year I paid a vehicle tax, so that's another deduction). All of my fellow teachers are apparently paying a LOT more this year, and a lot of my non-teacher friends in North Carolina have said they're paying more in both federal and state taxes this year, as well.
If only I could get in on some of those loopholes for the top 1%...
Was a bit dreadful to see all the other shit Bret's been dealing with lately. That was quite a list on his FB post. That stroke must have really messed him up. 58 is too young for all that.

I got a better discount this year than last. Also had a kid, so that helped, but even without it would've been a little bit better.
If you adopt a kid on December 31st and then give him back to the orphanage on January 1st can you still get the full deduction when you file your taxes?

Nah, the IRS gets suspicious. It works better if you adopt the kid on December 26th (no Xmas presents) then take him on a "field trip" to the sausage factory on January 2nd.

Did you claim deductions for all of those school supplies you bought out of pocket?
