What was the last movie you've seen?

Just saw Inception. I liked it, though it didn't grab me quite as much as Memento did. I will buy it when it comes out on disk though and I'm sure repeated watchings will grow on me when I can dig deeper into the layers Nolan has created.

Just seen a couple films the last two days:

The Cove 8/10

A documentary film on the dolphin slaughtering in Taiji, Japan. I found this really eye opening and quite distressing too. An interesting look at how this guy (can't remember his name) basically started the dolphin craze that now keeps them in captivity, and wants to bring it down. The film doesn't really achieve much other than taking dolphin meat off of the local school's menu, and doesn't explain why the Japanese keep slaughtering dolphins for no real reason. Either way, it's a pretty powerful film, and I understand why it got an Oscar.

Amores Perros 8/10

I picked this up in Blockbuster for £2, and it's worth a watch. Directed by the guy behind 21 Grams, I thought this would be an interesting foreign film, and it is. Follows three stories, one of a young man involved in dog fighting that wants to elope with his brothers wife, one of a woman coping with the loss of her career and one of a former assassin living rough, trying to disconnect himself from his family but failing. They all interweave at points, but I found the ending didn't conclude any of the questions that were posed. It's a gripping film though, and kept me glued throughout. A lot of dogs dying though

Also, since it's being discussed, I didn't see Ghosts of Mars until a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it, and it was certainly miles better than Avatar...

I suppose that's what I should expect from a Twilight fanboy...

Well, to be fair, I have been using the "better than Avatar comparison pretty much ever since I saw the film.

Also, while they are certainly more entertaining than Avatar, and I did defend them earlier, I wouldn't really call the Twilight films "good" in any practical sense. Their primary values are camp and cornball. From my experience, a lot of the older "fans" fully recognize and appreciate that. I actually took my wife to see the first one on opening night at a theater that serves alcohol. I was just about the only guy in a theater full of women (most out of their teens), any we were laughing a good chunk of the time.

LOL. I've been playing Ecco the last few days and I had to give up and play it on emulator so I could save it. Stupid hard.

Watched three yesterday:
Boondock Saints II - a big disappointment. I was a big fan of the first one when a buddy of mine showed me a vhs cam rip of it back in the day. We watched it alot, it was also one of the first DVDs I bought. I have spoken to Troy Duffy several times about the film (you use to be able to email him through the site and he would respond in a few days) and several aspects of how they made it. This one was just an excuse to cuss alot and show man ass.

Little Shop of Horrors - 1986 version - It had been since the early 90s since I watched it so when Netflix said to I obliged. It was far more clever than I had remembered it being. So many great one liners and such sarcastic wit. Frank Oz did well there.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights - finished off the evening with some Mel Brooks. Sadly it did not hold up that well, atleast with the others who were watching movies with me. Like most Brooks films, it gets alittle rough in the middle. The fact that I fell asleep partway through just means I will be watching it again sometime this week to form a real opinion.

Next up is The Great Gatsby - 1974. I havent seen this since I was in highschool so I am really excited to watch it again. Gatsby is one of my favorite books.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights - finished off the evening with some Mel Brooks. Sadly it did not hold up that well, atleast with the others who were watching movies with me. Like most Brooks films, it gets alittle rough in the middle. The fact that I fell asleep partway through just means I will be watching it again sometime this week to form a real opinion.

I tried to re-watch this one last year, and was also severely disappointed. Almost all of the performances were really bad, in my opinion. Carey Elwes had this whole air of "ha ha ha, I'm being silly!" In my opinion, you just can't do that in a film of this type. The only actor who really committed enough to really get a laugh from me was Tracey Ullman.

I remember seeing this in the theater as a kid. That was the last time I watched it but I remember enjoying it. I was way more into ninja movies at that time though.

Saw this one in the theater too. I think that I am not really a big fan of Mel Brooks brand of humor.
