A red letter day full of new acquisitions for the card collection:

I'm not sure on my favorite from today. I'm a Pete Maravich rube, so the PSA 9 3rd year card is a nice get, but the White Plymouth Rock Chicken card is a close second. I'm hoping to get a Silky Cock - from my research it doesn't come up often as auction or buy now, so i'm keeping my eye on the one that's up now.

:P : Had an interesting wake up call this morning. Since it's been cold I've been keeping the dog inside. We have a nice large cage with a bed, but since he has been pretty well behaved and is house trained I usually leave the door open so he can get out and stretch if he needs to or come get me for bathroom emergencies. Well anyways around 4am I hear some really loud noises coming from the living room so I figured he got into his food container or had gotten into something in the kitchen. So anyways I roll out of bed to see what the commotion is. When I get in there he is up on the couch spreed eagle "grooming" himself rather aggressively. Needless to say the open door policy with the cage is going away for a while  .

Okay, here's something that just pissed me off harcore. A few weeks ago, I let a buddy of mine borrow my spare 3DS XL because he REALLY wanted to play Fire Emblem: Awakening before Fates comes out, but his 3DS is broken. He was going to give it back to me when we and one of our other friends all hang out today, but when I ask him about it, he tells me that one of his family members stole it (his cousins are...not the most noble of folks) and that to at least start trying to make it up to me, he bought another 3DS XL at Gamestop. Now normally I would have accepted that as fine since I had the spare 3DS restored to factory default since I wasn't using it (I got a New 3DS XL when it came out), but this was one of the limited edition blue Pokemon XY 3DSXLs. At current values, it and the one he got are about the same price, but I know that, with the nature of limited edition hardware, the Pokemon 3DS is going to appreciate whereas the regular old 3DS is going to depreciate over time.

What do yall think I should do? Our other friend, when I was talking to him about it in private, said he thinks I should accept the replacement 3DS and just have the guy do some work around my house to make up the loss of future value and inconvenience. I'm a really non-confrontational person, so I'm tempted to agree with him and just put all this in the past, but idk. Any thoughts yall have for me before I talk to him about it in an hour or so?

Accept the 3DS XL from your friend. Do not ask for anything else. Write off the loss of "collector's value" as a cost of having friends. Don't hold a grudge against your friend. Appreciate the fact that he replaced your handheld willingly, but do not loan him items of value again.

I'll echo what prfsnl_gmr said, but I might also consider asking that the game be replaced if it too was swiped (you make no mention of that.)

I'd also make it clear to him upfront that you won't be loaning him things in the future, and not because of his conduct, but because of the past conduct of his family.

Really though, how you handle it all boils down to the question of: How much do you value this persons friendship? And what you choose to do and say may have a very big impact on it one way or another.

Stories like this is exactly why I don't lend things out to people.

Stuff happens and at least he tried to make amends instead of do nothing and blame his cousins. Asking for more would look petty in my opinion (though he owes you the game too assuming that's also gone).

I also agree with the sentiment of not loaning him anything else of worth.

Agree with those above. Let it go. It's a shitty situation but the dude did try to make it right without you even having to ask him. It sounds as though he is making the best of a bad situation as well.

I've lost so many things just due to plain inconsideration, something like this wouldn't even put a blip on my radar.

If you really want to push the issue, offer to sell the one he bought you, and ask him to cover the difference to replace your original model.

I think, in the end it is just a DS though. You can always get another. If the buddy is a good friend (and it sounds like he may be) that is a bit harder to replace.

Forgiving him was never in question; it wasn't really his fault, and like y'all point out, he tried to make it right. We agreed that he'd help me out around the house with some of my cleaning and call it even.

I think I'll do that. Or make him play ET.
