Gonna try to roll through at least one short-ish JRPG before I go on vacation for a week..... I'll figure it out soon.

Also, Arx Fatalis is based on Ultima Underworld not Wizardry. You dissapoint me Exhuminator
What's funny to me is I was playing Ultima Underworld in 1992. Your profile says you are 24 years old. That means I was playing the game while you were in diapers. If you still want to be disappointed in me, that's fine son.

Anyway, I was just trying to recommend you some nice looking first person dungeon crawlers, since you can't seem to stand old graphics.

Maybe give one of these a shot:

All action-RPGs, and if you're not done before vacation it can come with you.

Not a bad idea actually. I own Ragnarok Odyssey (not the Ace version) and Dungeon Hunter...

so far Mass Effect is not sucking me in the way Dragon Age did. Which is weird. I'm more of sci-fi geek than a fantasy geek.

Dragon Age is just a better game all around, I think.

Dragon Age > Baldur's Gate > Neverwinter Nights > Mass Effect

Dragon Age > Baldur's Gate > Neverwinter Nights > Mass Effect
How the hell do you rank Neverwinter Nights above Mass Effect? The only way that makes sense is if you despise the sci fi setting.

Noise, the thing about Mass Effect is that compared to Dragon Age the RPG stuff is mostly in the dialog, not in the combat. Sure, your characters have levels, but it isn't as deep into the experience as it is in more traditional RPGs.

BoneSnapDeez wrote:Those are not "repros" - those are bootlegs. In the retro gaming scene a "reproduction" - somewhat paradoxically - refers to a game that never had a retail release (ie: English translated versions of Tales of Phantasia or Star Ocean).

Those are designed to look like legitimate games, they are bootlegs. Enjoy 'em Betagam7, but please don't let allow them to filter back into the secondary market.
There is no danger of me doing that. I rarely sell anything...even in RPG's

If anyone is interested, this is the sellers page.

He does post photos of the inside of the cart so the more technically minded on here can probably see what he's up to.

I am confused by the reproduction/bootleg thing though. Doesn't Rose Coloured Gaming (among others) advertise it's carts as "Reproductions" when they are often simply restyled versions of commercially available games?

Anyway, I'm about 3 hours into Lufia. I'm enjoying it in a nice old-school way. It's quite a simple, by the books experience but the music is nice and I'm enjoying it quite a lot.

I just got to the point where a third person has joined my party and I'm looking for a way to get a boat.

Hey, I appreciate anyone who reminds me I should play Arx Fatalis. And yeah, it's a game with some nice art direction :D

Eh I was just being a cantankerous ol' grump, as I'm apt to be late at night.

I think we should take this opportunity to spell out the key differences in gameplay between Dungeon Master, Wizardry, and Might & Magic game designs. As in, the base differences if you boil each game down to its elemental aspects. I don't have much experience with those original games, only things which evolved from them. Maybe we can get MrPopo to give us his insights on what differentiates these games from one another distinctly?
