I dunno, but I love that type of anime and I hope they continue the trend. I'll watch just about anything in the genre.

Edit: That being said, I'll guess that its popularity is due to how this type of anime seems more realistic than a purely fictional show like Fairy Tail. At least these adventures could potentially be feasible whenever future VR technology takes off. I think that adds to its allure.

It seems to me that the MMO based anime genre is bringing in a larger audience to watching anime in general because gamers may now be checking out this type of anime.

You can see how they may want to churn out this type of anime out given this new demand that never existed before.

Just started Assassination Classroom. If you like funny, this nails it. The concept is pretty cool to boot.

I'll second that, I've watched season one and need to get around to season 2....that show is freaking awesome. Worth every minute...

Okay so Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, is really really good (7eps in), but the only thing that's been bothering me is: can the character's actually die like they can in SAO? I don't believe that was properly explained in the anime, it seemed like we are just thrown in without enough introduction to the world.

Been a while since I watched it, but I'm pretty sure death is permanent. Whether it's a game or not is never clearly stated and none of the characters aside from possibly the gods are clued into that fact if it is the case.

Probably moot point for those that enjoy escaflowne but there's this:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fu ... r-the-clas

Only reason I can see for funimation doing this is probably a little strapped for cash since cutting ties with Olympusat...

I love Escaflowne, but I can't see this as anything but a pretty shameless cash-grab. I'm under the impression that dubs typically cost much less than $150k to produce and Escaflowne is pretty much a guaranteed hit, not some obscure show they need to "test the waters" for. And even if it WAS some obscure show that could be risky, Funimation routinely spends money on making SIMULDUBS from shows that haven't even been finished yet. They say this Kickstarter is just to "gauge interest" but I'm not wild about successful companies using crowdfunding on proven titles this way. Although I'll admit I'm not the target anyway because I prefer my anime subtitled.

I'll probably just get the "non-Kickstarter edition" from RightStuf or something.

Still watching Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans and it's still going strong after 21 Episodes. They've finally made it to earth and things are starting to get spicy. It seems like it's going to go on for quite while as well I'm wondering how many episodes they are shooting for since this feels like the midway point.

Last episode was great but they threw up so many "death flags" for a certain character that it killed me :P. Saying stuff like " _____ is going to retire in 3 days" or "no worries you will have plenty of chances to tell _____ how you feel in the future" is a death sentence for any character  .

@Nemoide yeah I'm probably the oddball out but I prefer mine dubbed. Especially since there are quite a few shows where the action is so fast sometimes it's kinda hard to keep up....
