So what have you guys been watching lately?

Hannibal the book is devastatingly bad. And it's comprised of like 100 5-page chapters which is kind of hilarious. I believe it was a novel written specifically to be turned into a film (much like Michael Crichton's The Lost World, which is also ass).

Movie sucks too.

Silence of the Lambs is brilliant in both movie and book forum. One of my favorite films ever, really.

Red Dragon = decent enough movie and book. I haven't seen Manhunter.

Hannibal Rising was another terrible book. Never bothered with the movie.

I find them both all right in their own way. I enjoy certain portrayals of certain characters better than others. For instance, Hopkins is still the best Leckter, but they mostly even out.

Of course, it's been a while since I've seen Manhunter, so my opinion may chance on a re-screening.

I pretty much agree. Red Dragon and Manhunter are fine. Silence is golden. I had to force myself to finish Hannibal and I stopped reading Rising about half way through.

Supposedly Harris wrote Rising because he was essentially threatened that if he didn't have any material than someone would just write a story regarding Hannibal without him. Which, if I think about it, explains a lot.

I saw Hannibal first, then read the book. And I remember enjoying the book more than the movie before getting to the ending sequence which was just a long series of what the fucks.

I never bothered with Hannibal or Hannibal Rising because both the books and movie versions of Red Dragon(including Manhunter) and The Silence of the Lambs were so good, and I knew it was all going to be downhill from there.

And if you have not seen it, I do recommend Manhunter. It is very different, but very worth watching.

Rising is a fun little flick I actually think they did a pretty good job with it. It's more geared toward action though. The actors for the most part do a really good job, the budget was pretty big so the locations, props, and filming are top notch, and the writing is decent. The lead definitely isn't Anthony Hopkins but he does pretty well as a more violent/impulsive younger Hannibal.

Manhunter is my jam. Sick soundtrack, 80s/Miami Vice vibes and visual style, William Petersen, Tom Noonan, oh man. Love it. Tied with SotL for me.

The rest, eh. Never read the books. Hannibal is more funny to me than anything; Ray Liotta's brains, Verger and his boars, etc. Red Dragon I think I gave up watching like a quarter of the way in. Never saw Rising or the TV show.

I'm on my second watch-through of Haikyuu! at the moment, and damn. That shit gets me AMPED. It's an anime about a high school volleyball team, and it inspired me to join the intramural volleyball team at the school where I work.

I am easily the worst player on the team, but I have a damn good time!

I started watching The Expanse after watching S1 of The Magicians and enjoying it. Not really related outside of being relatively high budget Syfy shows.

Seems promising so far.
