Re: NX Predictions Thread
Yeah I guess, but as much as it's loathed by the SNK community, sort of like the Neo-Geo X.
The handheld works on its own for the NGX, but to get HDMI output it has to be docked in the system (but unlike NGX) you have to leave it in the system to charge and use it as such. You can't just plug it in like any other handheld with an AC adapter choice (GB, Gamegear, Lynx, TE, through 3DS) and use it.
I'm not sure how the Shield handheld does TV mode, is it like my shield tablet where you can just run a micro HDMI to HDMI cable then throw a wireless bluetooth controller at it to game? If it is, more like the NGX then as the shield tablet or handheld you can still game on the unit itself while run into the TV to display there, the NX as I was told if docked can't be touched, it becomes 'the console' and you need another controller to run via the TV (like NGX with the Neo Geo USB arcade joystick in the box.)

Re: NX Predictions Thread
yeah I thought of the NGX from your description as well.
And yeah, the Shield Portable in Console Mode is basically just a console. You need to link the controllers to it.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Yeah, that's worded awfully definitively for details on a console that hasn't been unveiled yet.

Let's just say if you need to know where I got it from, think back to what I've said in the past as 'my source' and if not IM me and I'll say. I don't want anyone getting in trouble this close to a reveal of the system (which is soon supposedly.)

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I hope the rumors of backwards compatibility with the 3DS are truuuuue. If they are, then the NX would have to be like, $400+ bucks before I'd even consider not buying it on day 1.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
If it has a touchscreen, how would it work when docked? Won't there be games that need the touchscreen? Would they need to be played portably?

I think I remember being told it's not BC at all, totally new architecture. Other than using small storage physical media like 3DS, it's not a 3DS inside.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
ARM-based CPUs are pretty potent these days. Apple's A10 Fusion in the latest iPhone is competitive with some desktop chips. And PowerVR is also riding the edge with mobile 3D chips. If Nintendo can capitalize on current cell phone design but throw in a cheaper screen (720p, maybe?) and not have to miniaturize as aggressively, they could still pull off a potent device, despite being mobile. I mean, they won't need a cell modem or GPS, at the very least, and they have more space for a battery, so they can use slightly cheaper tech all around. Fingers crossed they manage the hardware well.
