Swift justice for Costa Rica. They had a penalty criminally not called but then scored a minute later.

Their team is great. Who woulda thunk it?

It's football so you never know. That's the beauty of the game compared to many other sports where upsets are not so easy.

Fucking pathetic refereeing, but Costa Rica still won.

Buffon came back to explain the loss: "Refs didn't rob them enough."

So that's England officially gone. I have a long standing tradition of supporting the team that knocks us out so I am now rooting for Costa Rica! YAY! Seriously though, they play some really good football and also play like it's their last ever game. I hope they do well.

Makes that Italy/Uruguay game all the spicier as well. Vindaloo spicy. Another one dimensional approach to the game from the Italians. I know some of the offside decisions were incorrect but they just trying over and over to beat that well organised Costa Rican defence. Silly.

Here's that Van Persie goal again just for funzies.

Wow, the past few days of soccer have been incredible and full of the drama.

The Aussies holding on but in the end lost out. Cahill's goal is one of the best of the tournament.
Greece and Japan: how you miss all those chances while having a man advantage. How?!
Chile: Thanks for the upset.
Costa Rica: World class, embarrassing a flat and uninspired Italy side.
Swiss and French up next!

A journalist here mentioned that England seem to do tourism at the World Cup. They have no vibration, no urgency, no desire. To me, it showed during their games.

To be sure, it is a competent side, but to win you've got to believe you can win. And every time they went down a goal you could see the self-doubt creeping up. When Suárez scored his second goal, England did not seem able to stand up and put up a fight.

It's a shame that the English stopped believing their national team so much. Because to win you have to believe in yourself to the end. If the English don't, who will?

France has been lovely in decimating Swiss defense. Keep at it!

I was going to disagree but yeah, pretty much. The media will now go through the usual suspects as to why we were so shit: too many foreign players in the league, too few English players at top level (both questionable), whether the media was too critical or not critical enough, youth system that should be more like Spain, Holland and Germany's etc etc etc.

For me it comes down to a few core things: Bad management, inflexible tactics and lack of vision. Me watching at home is frankly irrelevant.

Ghana doing really well against Germany so far. Don't expect them to win though, Germany is a power house. Maybe they can get a tie?
