My experience with this game is next to nothing. I just read somewhere that not only that the Advanced course has more stages (like Batrider's Advanced course), but it's also more difficult. Far be it from me to limit participation in a certain month, I wouldn't want someone new like me to be turned off to something that was far more harder to get into. But then I look at Doc and Dun here who played this game far more than anyone here.

I don't think it would harm too much if we had 2 scoreboards. We don't have any console ports for this game anyway, right? That way, the new players can ease into it without being turned off, and the more experienced people can play something a little more challenging, and maybe after getting used to it on Normal, more people can try it on Advanced.

Ok then, play EITHER Normal or Advanced. I'll keep track of both, but remember to include your select-button type, because that will make a difference. Introductory post has been edited -- go for it!

Good stuff. My previous best on Normal is about 7.4 million (24th in the ShmupsForum high score table). I'll try and beat that first, then move on to Advanced...

2nd Ever Run - obviously lots of similarities to Garegga. Unsure on the yellow / blue / green shields. Do I want to grab all? Do I want to only focus on one color?

The red stationary squares - what are they doing? Maybe building up a bomb meter?

The gold seems similar to Garegga, but not sure if it builds up the same way - seems to go from 4 to 1 randomly, don't think i'm missing them but they drop in value anyways?

Maxed out the medals at 10K, ended up getting 3 100K stationary medals on Round 3 - not sure if was from maxing out medals or if I uncovered something. Got an extend as Round 5 started, again not sure if random, or from hitting 2mil. Round 6 is tricky on the eyes - had a hard time adjusting but still made it pretty far but died twice.

Not to worry, I plan on clearing Normal soon with a much higher score. Fun game.

Wow. Are these scores something I'll expect too?

I have read that the Flame Viper is probably the best to use, but then there's 8 more ships.

Red squares on the ground increase bomb, similar to Batrider.

As far as I know, 100K medals appear when you are at 10K medal level and the score multiplier is active.

Extends also default at 2 million, I believe.

Was that 2.8 million score from Normal course?

Yeah, all my scores are normal course so far.

Word to the wise then - the 2mil extend isn't an auto extend, it will fall and you have to grab it. I got mine after a boss, so it appeared as I started the next stage and just barely grabbed it before it went off screen.

Flame Viper starts out the most powerful for sure - but I think at least 2 of the other ships are more powerful once fully powered up.

EDIT:
Not sure how close this is to the ALL, died on the 3rd consecutive boss-type after the cloud and ship section. Chaining was horrible this run :/

Got the ALL and never got the 2nd extend as I crossed the 4mil barrier in the final boss fight and the extend won't drop during a boss fight.. Score was like 4.3mil but because I need 4.8mil to get on my PCB's scoreboard I didn't get to enter my initials or take pic. I got a pic of the credits fwiw.

I'm somewhat surprised how quickly the ALL came but i'm not done with normal mode yet. I've had runs of 4mil by round 4 so there is a ton of room to improve score. It's interesting - in most games chaining becomes harder the higher you go, in this game, once you hit 10K, chaining seems much easier as the medals are so much larger, they're quite easy to collect. Unfortunately in this run I never got over 2K and by round 5 I hadn't died yet, so figured just get the clear out of the way, then focus on score.

Now, when I was playing, all of a sudden I was getting numbers appearing on the left hand side of the screen? I'm guessing it's a score breakdown of some sort.



I've got a lot to learn about scoring here. It's been good so far, not overly difficult, music is top notch, and a ton of ships to pick.
