New games in bold.
January:

1/2 - Spec Ops: The Line - PS3
1/3 - flOw - PS3
1/4 - Flower - PS3
1/7 - Journey - PS3
1/9 - WET - PS3
1/13 - CTR: Crash Team Racing - PS1
1/16 - Asura's Wrath - PS3
1/18 - Crash Bandicoot 1 - PS1
1/19 - Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure - GBA

February:

2/1 - Vanquish - PS3
I just wanted to update my list but I am too lazy to do a full write-up on Vanquish. I was hoping to get Vanquish finished in January so I'd hit 10 completed for that month. I was also working on Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams and I became distracted by the start of the semester for my Master's program as well as life in general.

For some reason, I had a tough time playing through this because I found it really boring. I think I have either played too many shooters or I just went into this game with the wrong vibe since I've read and heard a lot of positive things about it. There is no doubt the game is very impressive visually and some of the gameplay mechanics are interesting. However, I think I enjoyed the game more towards the later chapters. In the end, I don't think this is a game I'd ever have the urge to play again.

2. Teen Agent (PC)(Point and Click Adventure)
3. Alpha Protocol (PS3)(RPG)
4. Beneath A Steel Sky (PC)(Point and Click Adventure)
5. Imscared - A Pixelated Nightmare (PC)(Horror)
6. Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (SNES)(RPG)

10. Lure of the Temptress (PC)(Point and Click Adventure)

12. CoD of Duty (PC)(FPS)

This review is best read when listening to this song:

CoD of Duty is everything Infinity Ward and then Activision have been trying to create for YEARS. It is EXACTLY what the American FPS market needs. It contains everything: simple controls, "realistic" weapons(which actually shoot!), and killing terrorists. The only thing missing from this game? Eagles flying F-16s with missiles blazing while Miss America wearing a string bikini color-coordinated to look like the American flag and wearing the Statue of Liberty crown fires an M4 in each hand and screams "GOD BLESS AMERICA!" That, and microtransactions. I really think it could use more microtransactions. But think of all it achieves:

*You literally shoot fish in a barrel!
*Terrorist fish!
*Little way in terms of an icky plot to get in the way of all the ACTION!
*Short single player campaign to be brushed aside for whenever multiplayer comes out!
*Regenerating health!
*A nuclear bomb!

If anything, my only complaint is that it was too open. More linearity in first person shooters is definitely needed. Also, where was the Tutorial level? I seriously needed my hand held, as despite having played these types of games all my life, I completely forgot how to play and couldn't be bothered to read the manual.

Oh wait, THERE IS NO MANUAL! PERFECT!!!

=========================================================

Yes, if you haven't figured it out, CoD of Duty makes fun of what one of my favorite genres of video games has become in terms of acceptable design. While the current crop of games have their strengths(firearms manufacturers use modern war-style FPS to market their brand names. Seriously. And that could be considered a strength), I still like to see one come out and hit the mainstream which branches away from what has become the norm. Also, anyone else miss WWII FPS games? Because I actually do.

1. Thomas Was Alone - PC
2. Sam & Max Save the World - The whole season - PC, GOG versions
3. Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space - The whole season - PC, GOG versions
4. Sam & Max The Devil's Playhouse - Episode 1 - PC, GOG version
5. Sam & Max The Devil's Playhouse - Episode 2 - PC, GOG version
6. Sam & Max The Devil's Playhouse - Episode 3 - PC, GOG version
7. The Walking Dead Episode 1 - PC
8. The Walking Dead Episode 2 - PC
9. The Walking Dead Episode 3 - PC

The Walking Dead Episode 4 and 5 - PC

So I finished The Walking Dead and I'm rather disappointed. Not because the last two episodes sucked or anything like that, but because everything played out so predictably. Maybe it's because I've read so much of the comic and seen so much of the show, as well as having seen a few zombie movies. I predicated how the story would end as far back as episode 3, but kept hoping the writers would surprised me. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. As it turned out however, the story ended EXACTLY like I expected it to. I'm not kidding. It was exactly as I pictured it in my head. It's not exactly the ending I wanted, partly because it was predictable and partly because....well, never mind.

EDIT: I should also mention...that your choices don't mean jack in this series. Every significant event plays out a certain way

1. Liberation Maiden (3DS) - 1/6
2. Dead Space (360) - 1/11
3. Anarchy Reigns (360) - 1/13
4. Dead Space 2 (360) - 1/17
5. Dead Space 2: Severed DLC (360) - 1/17
6. DmC Devil May Cry (360) - 1/22
7. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3) - 2/5

I'm not sure why, but I have had a really hard time getting into JRPG's this generation. I typically don't find the story very interesting, the voices over-acted and the graphics boring. It also seems that a lot of today's JRPG developers think that the more side quests there are in your game the more fun your game is.

I might just be an old-school JRPGer, but the last JRPG I actually enjoyed was Lost Odyssey. I wasn't able to finish Xenoblade, Eternal Sonata or Tales of Vesperia, and I haven't even started The Last Story or Final Fantasy XIII-2.

But I started and finished Ni no Kuni. And while it's far from my favorite RPG, it's easily one of the best I've played this generation. It's charming, has just the right amount of side quests and utilizes interesting battle mechanics. It also incorporates a monster taming/evolving system that gives the game that something extra.

The writing isn't great, the story is full of cliches and some of the bosses are downright frustrating. But overall I really liked this game, and it's definitely one of my favorites on the current gen consoles. I won't be forgetting it any time soon.

CoD of Duty..

There's a game called Call of Duty of Duty? Wonders never cease. In related news:

1. Batman Genesis
2. Golden Axe Sega CD
3. Streets if Rage Sega CD (I'm keeping the typo)
4. Streets of Rage 2
5. Super Mario Bros. 2 NES
6. TMNT Fall of the Foot Clan Gameboy
7. TMNT 2 The Arcade Game NES
8. TMNT Hyperstone Heist Genesis
9. Call of Duty Black Ops 360 *new*

I actually preferred the campaign in CoD MW2 over Black Ops. They're basically the same game with different environments, and I like the stages in MW3 better. It's still a fun military FPS, but I don't get the hype.

Sometimes I feel like using the LT button is cheating, but at the same time it is part of the game.

The word "CoD" in that context refers to the fish. Accordingly, the game (which is a parody) might be titled "Cod Fish of Duty".

I think he means that it should be "Cod of Duty" not "CoD of Duty".

Since this is a retro site, I wonder if you guys will one day go back to hating/mocking Halo instead of COD?

Anyway, I beat Deus Ex HR. I've always held Arkham City as my favorite game of 2011, but now I'm not so sure. Everything about the game was phenomenal, except for the technical aspects of the graphics and the boss fights. Human Revolution totally makes up for Invisible War, and in fact highlights exactly what IW did wrong. This is not a game I'll be forgetting anytime soon. Now, on to The Missing Link DLC.

And I liked it.

Beating more of the same games I beat every year. But I'm fine with that as I love 'em and still enjoy playing them.

Nabbed all the chaos emeralds in both games with ease. Sonic 2 almost makes it too easy to nab all the emeralds as I believe I had either five or six of them by the time I got to level two. I may as well go ahead and beat Sonic CD while I'm at it.

I own it, but have never really played Sonic and Knuckles and I've never played Sonic 3.
