I do hardcopy any time I can. Especially with these, maybe I'll get lucky and one will be worth money. Doubtful, but always possible.

Most comic shops will allow you to have a box, as long as you actually buy the comics you set aside. And often they'll give you a discount for doing so. I get a 10% discount on all comics pre-ordered, and since it's local I just pick it up meaning no shipping costs.

With my local comic shop I can subscribe to titles I get every month, and pick and choose other stuff when I want to and as long as it's pre-ordered, the 10% discount applies.

For sure. Just like video games, nothing beats the actual physical media. The collecting aspect of comics is very rewarding, and non-existant with digital copies. And the smell of the old comics (I know, weird, but it's a comic collector thing). Plus, my comic collection can never be taken away because of a virus, broken phone, or damaged files.

Yeah, I do love the smell of comic books. The smell of the paper. There's no comparison. It always has a bit of a nostalgic quality to me as comic books are another part of my youth like games, anime, wrestling, etc.

I really need to start a subscription at my local comic shop. Buffy got me back into comics like two or three years ago, then I got hooked on Fables and now with the new 52 I think I'm finally getting enough stuff to justify one. I could really use the discount and it would be nice to know I'm not missing any issues

Thanks for the replies guys, ya'll are really helpful. I guess I will have to do preorders off of the internet or something, seeing as I have no local comic shops.... TFAW might be the place to try.

Thoughts though- How do you feel about trade paperbacks? I personally like them for comics you miss, and ease of reading. Plus, I personally HATE adds in the middle of my comic. Ruins any immersion I may have had.

I love trades. They look great on a bookshelf. A lot of comic book stories read better when there is no break between issues like any kind of serialized storytelling(the same applies to tv series). I also love how they collect all the variant art for you to see. Most trades are very thorough that way. Truthfully, I enjoy collecting both comic book issues and trades. They each have their perks for me

Trades have a certain sophistication that I like. A bookshelf full of trades is something you can show off, unlike a box full of comics, but comic book issues are fun to collect for the nostalgic quality they give me. Plus, you get to enjoy the story just as it's unfolding rather than wait for the trade to come out

Oh man, ads are half the fun of comics. You know how many old video game and movie ads there were in comics during the 80s and 90s? And if you go even further back, the ads start to just get laugh-out loud funny with the shit they'd sell kids in the 50s-70s.

Plus, a trade paperback will NEVER raise in value. Single-issues, will. Right now the comic collector market is in a slump, but then the comic collector market has always gone in highs and lows, much like the stock market. It's inevitable that a high is coming, it's just a matter of time. And when that does happen, you'll be glad you hung onto those floppies.

But for those comics that you just can't track down, or are out of your price range, then trades are fantastic.

Man... I think I'm the only one who is liking the digital comics. I will have to admit that for my site taking screen shot is 100 times easier than scanning my old comics.
As of right now I am getting most of my comics in print since I don't have a smartphone or other fancy mobile device. That being said, I do like comixology's presentation and would be 100% on board with their digital service if the price point wasn't the exact same as print.

I read comics to read them... I only collect them to read again. I have always said if you aren't willing to read your comics while on the toilet you have comics for all the wrong reasons.

To me, reading comics is an experience. Reading them on an ipad or other device removes 90% of that experience. It's like with video games. I love emulators, but I'd much rather sit in front of a tv with a controller in my hand. I have zero interest in reading a digital comic unless it's the only way available to read that particular comic
