Meh, almost all of the games I've beat this year can be done in a couple hours a piece. I tend to play one big game, like an RPG, and a ton of smaller arcade-like titles at the same time to keep things fresh. For example, I've been playing Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening for about five total hours, but its taken me like since the game came out to get that far. Stuff like Contra ReBirth and 1942: Joint Strike can be beat in one sitting, and once I try them out I usually feel compelled to beat them if they are fun.

Haha, I can see that. I spent a month whittling away at Front Mission 3 and LEGO Batman that once I beat one of them, I glutted on short horror and FPS titles. I've killed most of my PC collection, which is what I've really been into lately, and I'm wondering what I should play next. I'd keep with my PC games, but I just discovered that a couple of the games I've yet to play are DOS only, and I don't feel like relearning DOSBox at the moment, so it's on to something else I suppose.

Maybe another PS2 game. I got a ton of those.

Just beat the campaign portion of the Saboteur for the PS3. Wow, what a fantastic game, totally better than the reviews. Some polish issues but great story, fun gameplay. Excellent buy IMO.

Just got my last trophy in Final Fantasy X!!!. Though I've beaten the game already, only now do I consider myself DONE. I got a few loose ends to tie up(like reading the few data entries I have left)and then I move on. Maybe I'll get back to playing Bayonetta(and getting all the achievements)and also hunt down a copy of Demon Souls

Still gotta get around to playing Mass Effect 2 and finishing Dragon Age some time this year

So that's Valkyria Chronicles, Ratchet & Clank:Tools of Destruction, Ratchet & Clank:Crack in Time and Final Fantasy 13 as all the games I've beaten so far this year I think

Wow....kind of a slow year so far lol. Damn life getting in the way of my gaming all the time. Curse you job and social life!!!

EDIT:Actually, I did finish Bayonetta on normal difficulty this year too. Though I cheesed my way through some parts of it with a glitch that lets you repeatedly used an item that damages all onscreen enemies. I gotta get back to that game and improve my skills

The Conduit - Wii - *new*
It's not near as bad as it often gets panned to be and easily worth the $15 bargain bin price I picked it up for. Probably the second best FPS I've played on the Wii (behind Metroid Prime 3), and there's something to be said for the experience of using a Wiimote/Nunchuck setup in an FPS. The story was lame, the characters uninspired, and the shooting somewhat repetitive...but I still managed to enjoy certain sections of the game. There were some interesting weapons, a few memorable boss fights, and a few interesting gameplay gimmicks. At the end of the day, I'm glad I put the time in.

Dark Sector - PS3 *new*
I've had this game for a year and a half or two and seem to play 2-3 levels, take 3-4 months off, play another 2-3, repeat, repeat, etc.. I finally got to the end of the game after picking it up again last week. It's not that the game is especially long, but some of the fights would get frustrating and the story/gameplay wasn't engaging enough to bring me back before I'd switch to something else. The game looks good, especially considering how early of a current-gen game it is, and has one of the best uses of the sixaxis I've encountered. It's another bargain bin title that's worth picking up if you see it for $5-$10.

Super Street Fighter IV - PS3 *new*
I am going to count this as "beaten" since I made it to the credits screen on the default difficulty with no continues, but fighting games are hard to classify as "beaten" without a story mode and I am still planning to play a ton of this. Great game, and much improved over the original in my opinion.

I thought about picking this up the other day. My main concern was the controls, as the nunchuck controller just seems a bit meh to me. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and get it and Dead Space: Extraction soon. There are actually quite a few Wii titles that have ended up in the bargain bin that seem to be pretty decent.

Just out of curiosity, did you try the multiplayer in The Conduit? I've heard it was decent.

Nope, I didn't try the multiplayer and don't really have any intention of doing so.

I too want to play Extraction as I really enjoyed the original Dead Space. I'm sure it'll be ~$15 soon...

I was browsing through games on my MAME'd Xbox and came across this horizontal shooter. I was only going to try it out, but ended up beating the whole thing in about 20 minutes. It was fun, but like most arcade games, it became obnoxiously difficult towards the end. The game had some nice colorful sprites that kept me playing, and the gameplay was simple, but addicting. Worth a shot if you have access to it!

The Great Ragtime Show (aka Boogie Wings) - MAME - *new*
I had never heard of this little arcade only gem before, but watching someone at TooManyGames fight a giant mechanized Santa who wished you Merry Christmas while firing a giant gun at you made me a believer. It's a WWI era horizontal shmup, and has an interesting gimmick - there's a hook attached to the plane you fly in that allows you to pick up everything from bombs to elephants to shoot at your enemies. You can also ride horses, giraffes, etc. It's hard to explain, but it is undeniably hilarious and unlike anything I've played before in the genre. Wikipedia explains:
There are numerous nonsensical themes or scenes appear throughout the game, such as:
* A battle against a ferris wheel rolling on the rails of a jet-coaster.
* A battle against a gigantic Santa Claus who ambushes the player with a handgun.
* A pennant item that serves no purpose when collected.
* A fountain of water infinitely spewing out of a fire hydrant that was fished up from the water.
* A blues singer, dog, and village girl who move around on the field with no effect on the player's character or the enemies.
* A bronze statue of Tough Guy; a character from another nonsensical Data East game called Trio the Punch.
Anyway, everyone who even mildly enjoys shmups should fire up MAME and check it out!

Metal Slug XX - PSP *new*
I'd played Metal Slug 1-7 and X, so I had to play this too (even though it is just an enhanced port of 7). It's standard Metal Slug fare and it runs great on the PSP. It's not one of the more creative/memorable entries in the series by any means, but still worth an hour or less of your time.
