I plan on buying a Wii U when the new Super Smash and Mario Kart 8 is released.Retrogamer0001 wrote:What Nintendo really needs to be focusing on is the next Metroid or Zelda. Tropical Freeze is a good start and should boost sales, but they need more first-party IPs and fast.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I believe Zelda is in the same boat as Metroid. Obviously it's Miyamoto's favorite series and Nintendo's most "hardcore credential" but it's a very niche game. A niche which is probably 3-4 million strong around the world, and it ALWAYS buys the latest game mind you, but still a niche cause I don't feel the series has tapped into new players as much as say Mario or Pokemon do.alienjesus wrote: I don't know where people get this idea that Metroid is a big IP for Nintendo. I love me some Metroid, but it clearly doesnt do the number of mario, mario kart, smash bros, donkey kong, zelda or pokemon, and I daresay quite a few other franchises sell better for Nintendo too.
I hope Link Between Worlds changed that a bit though, cause MAN is that game awesome

On Zelda, I think that may be true. what makes it worse is that the fans of the Zelda and Metroid franchises are very VERY particular on how the game should be. When it doesn't meet what they deem worthy, the game tends to not sell as well as others. Look at the original Wind Waker, or with Skyward Sword for examples.ZeroAX wrote:I believe Zelda is in the same boat as Metroid. I actually didn't even try Skyward Sword cause Twilight Princess and the 2 DS games were dull imo. But I'm happy I gave Link Between Worlds a chance, it might even overcome Windwaker as my favorite Zelda ever.BogusMeatFactory wrote: On Zelda, I think that may be true. what makes it worse is that the fans of the Zelda and Metroid franchises are very VERY particular on how the game should be. Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Nintendo really keeps titles close to the vest. And usually it's an asset for them. It's really unusual to hear announcements of games years before they come out. I think Zelda is the only series where that really happens (because its fans are insatiable and they, for some reason, assume one isn't constantly being worked on)
I think a lot of these games actually take a lot longer than 2 years. Two years is kind of a minimum turn around time for almost any team. 3-4 is more likely, unless they're working from an existing base.
But, if you notice Nintendo really only announces stuff six months to a year before it hits. Prior to that, we'll hear sort of wishy-washy "Oh sure, we're always working on new things" or you'll see tech demos or something like that. For example, Super Mario 3D World wasn't officially talked about or announced until June and it came out in November.

That seems to be the way it is with the exception of the January Nintendo Direct where they showed "X", Yarn Yoshi, showed a teaser for SMTxFE and briefly discussed the concepts for the next Zelda game.Cronozilla wrote:Nintendo really keeps titles close to the vest. Now we're over a year later and not much new is known about any of those games. I really hope they pull back the curtain soon and blow my socks off for the rest of 2014.

I'm surprised Yarn Yoshi isn't out yet, but were you really expecting X to come out anytime soon? It took them like 4 years to make Xenoblade and this time it's an HD game, so if we see it in 2014 in Japan I'll be happy. Seeing it in the west in 2014? I'm afraid that would be a miracleCavZee wrote: That seems to be the way it is with the exception of the January Nintendo Direct where they showed "X", Yarn Yoshi, showed a teaser for SMTxFE and briefly discussed the concepts for the next Zelda game.

That January Nintendo Direct was most definitely an attempt to assure fans that games were coming, so I think it's likely a one off.
I don't expect to see more about most of those until this E3 at the earliest. I can imagine FE x SMT and X will be much longer than that though.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
It's not that I expected it quickly it was just that they showed it off so early which seemed quite uncharacteristic of them. Seems like that whole Direct was thrown together in a panic because the system's sales fell off a cliff that month.ZeroAX wrote:I'm surprised Yarn Yoshi isn't out yet, but were you really expecting X to come out anytime soon? I'm glad we got a taste of what's to come but I'd like some updates on those games now please. ;D

Well, based on that then we expect the next "console seller" should be out by at least July , in which I am afraid the Wii U will get much bashing for being in a "drought" phase.Cronozilla wrote: But, if you notice Nintendo really only announces stuff six months to a year before it hits.
Out of topic, but did the N64 face similar situation like this ? I mean prolonged periods of no games or game announcements ?
