Re: Playstation Vita thread
I see the Vita's ecchi games as pure fiction and fantasy, so it being a waifu machine doesn't bother me. Just like virtually murdering thousands of people in FPS games doesn't bother the broader demographic of gaming. Guilty pleasures all around.

I think we should treat everyone like objects equally. I'm not interested in men, but I'd love to see games with an RPG cast of half naked men with huge muscles and barely covered packages.

I'm sure there are plenty of bromance games like that released in Japan there seems to be a pretty good market for it given that there are usually 1-2 big budget anime each season with an all male cast.
Re: Playstation Vita thread
Context would matter too though. I mean, technically, all you'd need for that is art done like a Frazetta painting. Actually reversing things would change how the male characters behaved/etc too.ElkinFencer10 wrote:I think we should treat everyone like objects equally. AFAIK there aren't many games made for a female-centered audience. The Hakuoki games on PSP (and PS3) come to mind, but it's a far more limited niche.
Personally, I think stuff like Gal*Gun or Senran Kagura is fine, as the exception. They're ecchi games that aren't really pretending to be anything else. It's the degree that the "pander to otaku" elements have crept into so many other games/media that's tiresome. it's not just visual elements either, since why bother writing anything better than a moe stereotype if that'll sell?

I can't really argue with market economics and capitalism. If a product sells well, companies will keep making that product. It would be nice if there were also other kinds of products on the market too.

I CAN argue the point about muscly men and Franzetta though.isiolia wrote:Context would matter too though. Heh, I thought of that comic as well (and I'd be lying if I said I didn't used to think like that guy).

Yeah so Tennis 2k2 (Virtua Tennis 2) was one of the last Dreamcast games and also made its way to the PlayStation 2.ninjainspandex wrote: I actually had no idea they were still making Virtua Tennis games after the Dreamcast, the Xbox 360 version can be had for less than $10 I may get that
There's a big gap then - 2007 for Virtua Tennis 3. Virtua Tennis 2009 skipped the numbering. Then Virtua Tennis 4 was 2011. I have that one digitally for the 360, it was like $2 in a Sega sale a while back.

Never seen that comic, but I want male game characters like that now. That's adorable.

Since we were talking about Japanese games, there is an entire genre of games made for females in Japan. It's called otome.

There are a lot of games in the genre, here's some:
