Ticked (at my own stupidity): bringing only sandals for 5 days was not the smartest thing I could have done. Normally I wear sandals whenever there's not snow on the ground so I thought nothing of it... But normally I'm not walking NEARLY as much as I knew I would be here, plus typically at home I wear regular shoes when I have to work so it's not 24/7 on the sandals.

Lesson learned for next year? Probably not.

I literally can't wear sandals of flip flops ;)

Truthfully, I have the most difficult time walking in flip flops. When I wear them I look like a retarded penguin trying to ice skate. I can't keep them on my feet, and when I can it feels like a midget is squeezing the flesh between my toes.

My assistant's son made the team this year; so, I am keeping an eye on the team this year. I am happy to read that ECU won its first game.

Worth? That's tricky to answer as they really don't have an actual "worth", they provide explanations and sometimes possible indicators. They aren't completely reliable, and it isn't a true avereage as not every child in the world is included, but it does give doctors an easy way to discuss physical development, and it is easy for parents to understand.

For example, the ONLY time I bring up Hallie's percentile of 99% is because she is three years old and towers over five year old children. Parents ask about her percentile. It's nothing to brag about, and parents who do do not understand that the numbers given are not for praise and are nothing to invest in. Growth can change rapidly.

And I love my 42% as much as my 99%. Also, Luke, I love you but you are taking this number as judging children, and it's not. This isn't a doctor putting a grade on a child. There doesn't have to be a benefit or worth to the number, it's just numbers.

^That made sense to me.
But this didn't?

When you bring him in for a check up at nine months, he is bigger than he was at six months. Nonetheless, he has dropped to the 20th percentile for height and weight. The sudden drop in height and weight percentile would indicatate that he is not growing as much as you would expect him to grow, and it would be cause for further inquiry into his eating habits, nutrition, etc.

Conversely, let's say you have a little boy in the 15th percentile for height and weight when he is six months old. When you bring him in for a check up at nine months, he is much, much bigger than he was at six months, and he has risen to the 99th percentile for height and weight. This sudden and extremely rapid movement from one percentile to another also indicates that the child is not following an expected growth path, and it would also be cause for further inquiry in to the child's eating habits, nutrition, etc.

In sum, one percentile is not "better" than another. (That is, there are perfectly healthy babies at all percentiles, and a giant baby is not "better" than a petite one.) Looking at movements between percentiles over time, however, is helpful in determining whether a baby is following an expected growth path, and a drastic movement between percentiles may be cause for further inquiry into a child's eating habits, nutrition, etc.

Yeah I couldn't really think of a term for what I was trying to say which is why I used quotes. I'm kind of referring to the type of person who just has sex because the opportunity arise not because they care about the other person. Not a big fan of people who just go and have sex with a stranger or someone who they have no interest in. I especially dislike if they know that person has feelings for them and give them a "pity screw" like they are doing them a favor. I just never really bought into the whole idea of "casual sex" or "screw buddies" either.

To me sex is just as much about the other person as it is about myself. So the idea of a one night stand or using someone just to get off isn't a turn on to me.

Made complete sense, but perhaps I didn't properly phrase my question as I know how the numbers work.

I should have asked "Are you comfortable with a doctor giving your child a numerical grade on the development of their child?".

Spoke with a few more friends and they agreed that the percentile number was a bit of a "whatever" for them unless something is incredibly weird with the kid. They also agreed that parents who say things as "Well my little Randolph here exceeds the 98 percentile" are better left alone.

But you can't expect every parent to not brag about their kid.

My dog is smarter than your cat. She's in the 99th percentile for all quadrupeds.

My mobile phone's battery is in the 26% percentile. With some electrical encouragement I think she can be at 100% in an hour or two.

How does one brag about a cat?

"Little Miss Mittens is something fabulous. Just today she did not destroy the blinds nor the curtains".

Cats who do catch mice deserve the bragging.
