Yeah I really didn't care much for the second half of Death Note.

I'll give credit where it's due - the funny stuff in Death Note always made me laugh. It's just once they got all these meaningless ancillary characters involved... why am I supposed to care about any of these people? But yeah, episodes 1-16, untouchable. Everything after that (so far) is... ehhhh...

I've watched Deathnote a few times. The beginning always grabs me, but I get bored after a while. Sometime around when that shadowy corporation comes into the series I get bored.

You guys know I watch a lot of old anime, right? Lately I have been watching Vision of Escaflowne. This aired on Fox Kids sometime around 2000~ish. I don't believe they ever finished airing it. I found the DVDs at a Goodwill recently. I think it's a bootleg DVD set, but it's a well-made bootleg. Escaflowne is surprisingly good. The world is elaborate; the ongoing story has me interested. This show kicks a few anime tropes, but embraces others. For instance, The primary female protagonist is athletic, resourceful, and brave, (which kicks the useless anime girl trope) but there's still plenty of giant mecha fights. I like a lot of the characters for different reasons. Really cool show overall. Recommended.

If I recall, it actually modified a lot in preproduction, to deliberately try to appeal to a female audience. It's a fun show though, I still have the box set from back in the day

The movie is very well produced as well, and is very different from the show.

As I've always said, Death Note is fun to approach as a comedy. It's so damn over the top it's hilarious and entertaining. Also I thought Light/Kira was by far the best thing about it haha, I wish there were other shows where the main character is essentially the main villain. And please don't say Code Geass.

You might be like Aura Battler Dunbine or Panzer World Galient from the 80's if you like Escaflowne. I wouldn't be surprised if those were some big influences for it. Has that weird neo gothic fantasy sci-fi thing going on with mecha.

We should start an Anime Series Finished thread. Maybe it'd motivate us to consistently watch and finish more anime like it does for gaming.

I've been doing that for years actually. I pretty much never drop anything.

Anyways, I'm watching Dirty Pair right now. Checked out the OVA a few years back and it was awesome. This series is damn fun and I can easily see it being rewatchable stuff. Probably the best "sci-fi girls kicking ass" material next to Iria and Bubblegum Crisis. Gall Force is solid too. But Dirty Pair rules. Another genre I miss haha.

Check out these God tier OP/ED's, get ready to time travel to the 80's:

I'm currently watching Ghost Hound. It's one of the few anime series available on Prime. I'm only four episodes in right now. It's a bit slow off to start, but it looks like things might be picking up. I'll have to put in a few more episodes to see how I feel about it yet.

Just started watching Erased and finished all 4 episodes that have been aired so far. It definitely had a Steins;Gate vibe and that is a great thing, since I just finished the SG VN and wanted something similar.
